A fair ratio at the pinion/spur is near 6:1, preferably 32p. The driveshafts won't last long with that combo. An insert in the male end will make it last a bit longer but will also possibly impede maintenance.

You will want to run 32p for the Spur and Pinion. I went with a SuperShafty Beefy Top shaft with the RPP #7856 Slipper 56T with 12T Pinion. I started out with a 54T 32p plastic spur but I broke the stock top shaft after a couple of packs. The stock drive shafts didn't last much longer even with the drive shaft mod. |

I am running the 54t traxxas slash spur gear and a 14t pinion (32p is a must) No problems so far while running my 19t motor. However i did twist a driveshaft after about 12 packs through it. (probably half my fault) lol |

Another option would be the steel slipper/spur from RRP in 48 pitch. I run my pro4 3300 at around a 5:1. But could go all the way to4:1 just keep an eye on temps.

Depending on the weight of the rig and tire size, with the Roc412 3100 56/10-11 is a good place to start. If it still gets a little warm start playing with different pinions and maybe a different spur.

I have the pro4 3300 in mine and run 56/14 with no problems. I run 2.2 tsl tires on aluminum wheels and it all runs pretty cool. Not sure on my weight though. I'm guessing 1.5 pounds more than stock maybe.
