Wraith Rookie questions

Getting a sweet deal on a Wraith kit, unassembled, minus axles. I'm not new to scaling at all just don't know much about the Wraith. I'm gonna do some mild comping with it in our local club next year, my question is what things are must do mods, I don't want spend money on unnecessary items, so in other words a really budget build. I'm gonna run the regular SCX trans and rear steer. I've watched nearly bone stock SCX10's do well in comps so I'm hoping the Wraith will be similar, Thanks for your help guys"thumbsup"

Hey, I would start Here. That maybe the simplest answer. I would also say depends on what you are looking to do with it. Drive train attention is a good upgrade for powerful motors. If it is speed you’re after then maybe a combo of drive train and suspension.

Hey but what do I know. I got my kit the other day and I am still trying to decide on what motor (7 days) to get….

Just Class 3 scaling, no speed runs just obstacles and hill climbs and some rocks.

Re: Wraith Rookie questions

ok. i thought you meant comping like 2.2s. We have had some guys wanting to come run 2.2s with their new scx10 in our club... funny

Re: Wraith Rookie questions

Oh I'll be running 2.2's that's Class 3 correct? More than likely Pitbulls.

run it and upgrade whatever fails. youl only waste money following Harleys guide and upgradeing from the get go. I guess its not harelys guide its the hole upgrade and get as much shiny stuff on your wraith vibe around here.

only axle upgrade im running is lockers and knuckles haven broken anything else.

if you run lots of power lockers and gears may be needed but I would upgrade till the rig tells you to.

im running a tmax front and rev driveling on my wraith pennies compared to mip upgrades and is holding up to a lot of horsepower more then maybe most all wraiths ever seen when I strap a 6s on battery on

Thanks this was the kind of opinion I was looking for, I wanna here from the budget guys, class 3 isn't real big in our club, so I'll be putting more towards class 2. Don't get me wrong I like nice shiny durable parts but it's just not in the budget for this.

Steering links, suspension links, driveshafts, axial universals, new lockers (or jb weld the stock lockers into the stock carriers), shimmed pinions, transmission gears, 32p pinion/spur, knuckles, c hubs, and knuckle weights. Then stick some waterproofed electronics in it and hammer down! The rest of the the "ultimate wraith" list is more for show or running basher power.

kincer 10-10-2013 06:26 AM

Thank you this is what I'm looking for, awesome. This will be a trailrig/class 3 scaler all function no bling.

Steering link and lower links would be the first thing I change from plastic. The stock plastic ones just bow in or out. The drive shafts with become licorice if too much torque is applied, I went with mip shafts but you could put a drill bit or dowel in the stock ones for a while if you are on a budget. If you upgraded the drive shafts then upgrade the lockers or jb weld them as suggested. I spun the locker right after upgrading the shafts. Ive done 32p gears and the stock, the 32p is great for speed, not so much for control. I went with an 87th spur and 16th pinion with a 4200kv brushless setup. The easiest upgrade is tires if you have the rtr one, the kit tires are actually pretty good. alum carriers and knuckles are always good but I would say don't upgrade those unless you break the originals first. If you put fine threaded screws in where the knuckle meets the carrier that will good for a while. From what I have seen people break the knuckles because the screw came out and put too much pressure on one side.

You can achieve the same ratio with 32p or 48p. Why would 32p only be good for speed?

I'm really appreciating these tips guys, thanks a bunch! I've decided I'm going with a Castle SV3, castle BEC, Tekin 35t motor, 2 Bluebird waterproof 180oz servos and 87/14 gearing, the reason for these items is I have the gearing, motor and one servo so far, I'm running a SV3 in my Scx10 and it works great and price is decent on these and I can 3s for a little more zip.

That all sounds great except for that servo...

kincer 10-10-2013 09:10 AM

Lol, I've been running that servo on my Scx with cms all season working great.

It may be all you need in a 1.9. Personally I would want at least double that amount of torque in a wraith.

kincer 10-10-2013 09:24 AM

I'm thinking with front and rear steer it should be ok, if I was strictly just front steer then a 300-400 oz, maybe I'm wrong but I'll give it try since I already have one.
