I have a 6lb scx10 using a 27T mod motor and a 2s...when the gear breaks ill make the upgrade or go back to stock depending on how long they lasted me from normal use.

Was hoping I could use a 14T HD pinion with a HD stock tooth count ring gear....now im bummed out...lol

Well ummmm...im thinking I had this backwards...a 14T to replace a 13T would overdrive not underdrive..

I was using OD front and UD in rear with no issues. It helped a lot with steering and crawling but I wanted a little more speed so I just put 36/14 gears in the rear as well.

ok I changed to stock diff fr/rr , 35t mtr/ 15/87 and 2s 40c 5amp
outside temp 47
slow but ok crawling, but still acted over geared.
would get stalled easier than I expected. I guess used to 3s power
but anyway it held an ok temp finger 5 count seemed faster in reverse, but half way thru the the pack the temps were rising bad and stalling
happened more often. But reverse would work fine.
i would try a gate in forward and stall out. try the same gate in reverse and power right thru. temp stayed finger 2 count and smelled that burn,
i ran it hard in reverse and seemed like the temps dropped a little
but fingers were numb so who knows. temp gun batttery dead so...
so i checked my manual and the diffs are installed correctly
I flipped them any way and will see what happens.
I read alot where flipping was needed due to backwards from the manual
Read some things where clockwise and counter clockwise motors ETC.

so this is my update.....................Until later

Sounds like your running either the motor backwards, or with negative timing. This will cause excessive heat.

When you roll the truck forward, which way does the pinion gear on the motor rotate, as looking at the gear side of the motor?

If I were you, I would pull the trans, remove the motor and spin the trans with your fingers. See if something is dragging. Then do the same for the axles. I suspect you have something not spinning as freely as it should and creating drag and heat.

Ok do i changed up to a stock 2ot motor &13/87. Now she seems to run cool with lots of Power. I do have this one hill that does seen to eat motors tho, but, it's probably because it's a hard hill to climb.

Talking Re: overdrive gears.?

I did underdrive in the rear of my wraith I have a 5 slot 16t motor and after 5 min it's smoking hot... I can't think of any other reason but the ender drive gearing...
I would like to figure this out however I'm dropping in a HH trailmaster pro 2200 in her tomorrow!!! so my GOM build will get the HH 16T Brushed setup and see if it's smokes it too...
would having overdrive in the front help balance the UD in the rear out a bit? this was a good topic and conversation. thanks for the info
