| New wraith owner axle question
Just picked up a wraith from a local for a crazy deal. Has a brushless sytem that has already been ripped out of it because im not trying to go 35mph. Once everything was all out I noticed the axles were kinda hard to turn, both front and back. How much should these spin when not connected to the motor? I may have to tear these axles apart to see if I have seized bearings or something along that nature. |

They should spin easily. Those of us running big power through them tend to shim the gears until the gears feel "crunchy". This helps them survive more aggressive motors. You don't say what motor he was running but he may have shimmed them. Either way its always a good idea to tear down axles that are new to you and go through them, inspect and grease them.

If the axles are packed with grease there is quite a bit of drag created. I noticed that after following a thread saying to load the entire axle case with marine grease to water proof it. Spin the wheel and it stops in like 2 rotations. My stock rtr honcho axles would spin for a few seconds. So there is something to check too.

ya theres no spin on either of them. Im going to assume theres some bad bearings in there. aside from axial CVD's is there anything else i "need" to upgrade to run a 35t holmes setup on this rig? The idea was a semi budget build but thats going away fast.

Ok I've disassembled the rear axle and it's not as bad as I thought. One questionable bearing and about 2 lbs of grease are why nothing wants to spin. I'm ordering a bearing kit, cvd's and beef tubes tomorrow. Do I need to upgrade rear shafts and lockers/gears on a truck that will never see brushless? I don't mind but if I can save about 120 bucks in extra parts that would be great. |
