Did you try to re-bind it?

binding is not the problem. The steering works and I can hear the motor spinning but it seems somehow the motor and the wheels are not connected any more

Most likely the pinion & spur gears were not properly set
and the metal pinion gear has stripped the plastic spur gear.
I had that happen to me in the first 5 minutes of running.
Best bet is to change out the 48 pitch gearing to 32 pitch.
56 tooth spur and experiment with 9tooth to 14 tooth pinion gears
till you find what woork best for you. 56/12 is a good starting point.

Or the pinion grub screw is loose. Stock Wraith's are over geared anyway, I found a 16 or 17t pinion was better than the stock 20, or go 18-20 with an 87t SCX spur

What steps did you take before powering it up? The instructions say you should double check all the screws and make sure they are tight. I know it can be frustrating to spend this much money on a rtr and find loose or stripped screws but it's part of the reason some people pick kits instead. Be patient with things like this, wraiths are pretty stout machines.

Axial Wraith RTR Problem after 5mins of running - YouTube

Here is a video of the problem. It ran fine for literally 5mins and then it started crawling and now won't even move.

I'm a total noob with the wraith. I have a traxxas e-revo vxl before this. and this seems like a totally different beast.

any advice on which parts i need to order and how to install? since this is an rtr, and I have only bought rtrs in the past, no experience with gear changes.

Sounds like your pinion just came loose. Take your gear cover off and check it out.

Since it a RTR most likely the screws/bolts holding the motor have loosed and the pinion isn`t touching the spur gear.Pretty much with any Ready to run hobby quality rc you should go over the entire rc and check for loose screws and other problems.

i assume i need to open up the page 25 and 26 areas.

http://docs.axialracing.com/instruct...%84%A2_KIT.pdf

can you post some links to what parts i need to order? i live very far from hobby store so need to order everything online (i bought the rtr from another country).

are there any easy guides to how to open up the wraith? I opened the front shock mounts and the four screws on each side at the base of the cage but there is a cable connecting the steering control to the transmission or esc box that i cannot disconnect easily. also the rear shocks mounts are hard to get to with a normal screw driver without taking off the side body panels.

Something must have been loose or not meshing correctly. I have never stripped a plastic spur gear with stock electronics unless there was a problem. I can see the rest of the gear but from what i can see in that pic that should still work in that condition. By all means order up a new one for sure but you should be able to get the mesh right and still run that one while you wait for the new one. When setting the mesh make sure its not to tight. It has to be just right. To tight will make it not run right and it will build up a lot of heat. To loose and you get what you have there lol. I normally loosen the motor then get the gears touching each other. Then get a piece of paper and feed it into the gears by spinning the spur by hand. Once the paper is in between the gears tighten the motor and then take out the paper. After it tightened up take the paper out and check to see if it all spins nicely.

Please see pic of the gear below. Note that it ran for a few mins and then started crawling and then stopped moving altogether.

Ok thats pretty well junk lol. The mesh was loose i would say. Or the motor was loose and moving on you. It just looks like it was set way to loose from the factory to me tho

can you explain what you mean by the mesh being loose (and how to tighten it)? do you mean the gap between the metal gear and the plastic spur gear? how do I adjust it? the plastic bit is held by three scews and the nut with the spring in the middle--do i adjust (with paper as you suggest with the three screws (before i install the washer/spring/nut)?

the motor doesn't wiggle (is that what you mean by the motor being loose)?

My rtr was a pretty shoddy build. The right front C hub and knuckle were very loose due to a stripped out hole, and the body panels were not drilled in the correct locations. I basically did a complete tear down and rebuild. The stock spur gear was the first to fail followed by the esc and the servo.

That gap is the gear mesh. There are two screws that keep the motor in place. you need to loosen them and move the motor so that the pinion is closer to the spur, but not too close, as stated above just the thickness of paper is sufficient. Then retighten the two screws.
