RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 2 Attachment(s) I'll be quick with the words and let the pics do the talking. Started with an ebay special true roller, slightly used for $225. Originally intended to scavenge my Honcho for electronics, but decided to go all new with this. I could have just bought the frame for $50, since I tossed most of the stock parts. Live and learn. Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith I've been on this forum for the last 4 years, and have been watching and wanting a wraith since its release. I call this an inspired build because most of my ideas have been inspired by or directly stolen from RCCrawler members' ideas. So thank you to all who have helped me achieve this, along with my job and tax return that supplied the money. |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 4 Attachment(s) Started with the fastback mod, along with chopping up my original 4dr JK Honcho body to make new body panels. Just so anyone reading can feel the heartbreak of this like I had to, check out my profile and you will see how good this body turned out, not to mention the $75 bucks invested between original price and true Jeep paint. The wraith must live. Attachment 276219 Attachment 276220 Attachment 276221 Attachment 276222 |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 6 Attachment(s) I started with rc4wd inner fenders and dinkyRc hood, as well as the ckrc hood hinge kit. I know I could have made this easier and cheaper myself, but didn't want to bother with it. Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 4 Attachment(s) After checking the 2.2 scale rig forum, I thought I could give those builds some competition. I wanted something as scale as possible, with being virtually indestructible to the best of my abilities. And with money being no object because I want this truck to be a certain way, I set off. Attachment 276229 Attachment 276230 Attachment 276231 Attachment 276232 The fuel cell is from DinkyRc, and the hose, brass fitting for the fuel cell, and the end plug are from Home Depot. Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 1 Attachment(s) Coincidently, or not, the placement of the rx box is where an engine normally is. Hmmm.... Attachment 276234 I've watched "Rc Adventures" on Youtube, and if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about. The host showed an engine from Ridemakerz.com that he used in a scale build. I ended up buying the same engine, along with a set of headers with the hope of creating my vision. I could not have been more pleased with the results. |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 5 Attachment(s) This was all done without a servo in place, so I was lucky to have everything fit as well as it did. I ended up using a Spektrum Sr300 receiver, because I already have DX3C, and Hitec 7950th servo. I didn't detail this too well in pics with the engine modifications, but since the engine is easily disassembled all I really modified was the underside of the heads to fit the rx box and custom cut a piece of lexan that mounted to the original bolt locations. The engine is the rx box lid. The original lid is in the box with all the other stock parts. Now the pics... Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 4 Attachment(s) In case anyone is wondering, yes those are Vanquish titanium links and no they don't hit the headers. Got lucky there due to the bent upper links. Now the engine... Attachment 276245 Attachment 276246 Attachment 276247 Attachment 276248 |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 6 Attachment(s) I found an Undertaker on ebay, and since the Udertaker rides alone, he doesn't need the passenger seat. Perfect spot for the radiator, and worked out with a bonus that I'll get to soon. Had to stretch the steering column even though my driver has full mobility. I used some 1/4 delrin rod, and had enough left over to strengthen up the bumper after I chopped the ears off... Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 3 Attachment(s) I have no problem admitting I am a Vanquish whore. They make great products, evn though they can be a little pricey. I would rather have the peace of mind with having quality parts on this considering the abuse I'm gonna put it through. I liked the chassis mount set-up on my Honcho, and a buddy had the chassis mount with panhard bar along with a felsenfest locker and titanium steering rod for a deal I couldn't pass up... Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 7 Attachment(s) I like having my servo up high. It gives the truck a more scale appearance, as well as getting it further away from water and whatever else I may run through. I don't waterproof my trucks because I don't submerge them, but occasionally we do axle high water crossings. This chassis mount/panhard leads to some suspension limitations that aren't present with the stock axle mount. Got my brain to work a little and came up with this. If you can't tell what I did, I'll attempt to explain. The stock upper link mount on the truss limits suspension travel at full compression with the chassis mount. Since you only use one upper link with the panhard bar, I got out the dremel and heavily modified the truss into a fraction of what it was. I used rods ends to make the link mount in the holes that are in the truss and ground off the rest. This gave me at least a half inch back from what I had to give up. Now pics... Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 3 Attachment(s) Here is the wheel/tire combo I decided to go with. This was a tough choice since Vanquish re-released their KMC Rockstar wheels. I literally went back and for the for about an hour, but justified my choice by deciding the Rockstar wheels on 1:1 trucks are commonly seen on mall crawlers as opposed to true off road machines. The wheels are the Vanquish OMF's with modified TSL Super Swampers. I had to trim the inner bead on the tires so the inner beadlock ring would fit, and basically cut the foams in half due to the narrow wheels. Please don't drool on your computer... Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 9 Attachment(s) I originally got the fuel cell to house my esc and bec, but after getting the Mamba Max Pro for this truck, I found that it wouldn't all fit inside the fuel cell cleanly. Put the brain to work again, and with some lexan sheets from my lhs and a heat gun, came up with this. Used a Castle Creations 10A bec and Novak 13.5 brushless crawler motor. The pinion is a 16 tooth 32p with 54 tooth 32p spur. Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith The added bonus from earlier about the radiator placement is when the fan kicks on on the esc, it sounds like the fans on the radiator. Sounds goofy, but I thinks it's kinda cool. |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith 7 Attachment(s) Last thing that needed attention was the shocks. When I originally got this truck the shocks were notchy and somewhat sticky, probably from being improperly built by the original owner. No matter as I was upgrading them as well. After reading a lot of posts on here about the Traxxas Slash shocks, I went with those in all their stock plastic glory. I had flipped the shock/link mounts upside down to lower the cog for the stock shocks, but had turn them right side up for the Slash shocks since they are a little shorter. No matter since the ride height is roughly the same, but now I have big bore shocks. I recommend this suspension over stock any day, and you can tell from the pics that I still have good articulation and the only time there is a clearance issue is at full compression with steering at full lock. Pic time... Attachment 276291 Attachment 276292 Attachment 276293 Attachment 276294 Attachment 276295 Attachment 276296 Attachment 276297 |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith Yes it may sound like I'm fishing for compliments, but please feel free to comment, praise, insult, or degrade. Any feedback is appreciated, as it tells me that you checked out my truck and I inspired you to tell me about it, just as RCCrawler inspired a great deal on this truck for me. Thanks for looking |
Re: RCCrawler.com inspired Wraith Looks great man! Like the rx box idea with the engine. And great easy mounting choice for the mmp as well. Wish I'd thought of that when mounting mine. What's next on the list? |

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/25/tamehysa.jpg Found a guy on Ebay that makes lexan oil pans. Also got a 1/24 scale sticker sheet for the Moroso decals. Think I'm done for now Sent from my SGH-T769 using Tapatalk |
