allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build! Experiment 626 Re-born!

I have managed to work out a deal on a genuine DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Kit! It will be here within a week or so and I cant wait to get started on it!

I will post pics as soon as it comes in and will be lookinig for ideas on building it. I have looked in the wraith pic thread but there are not very many pics of the KOH style wraiths there. I will likely use my old Poison Spyder Body at first just to get an idea of what I will like and dislike.

My thoughts right now are to go with the CC MMP and Tekin ROC 412 for the power. I was thinking about VP axles like I have in my traditional wraith, but the GCM axles look nice too. I have not been able to locate where to buy the GCM axles though.

I have so many thoughts running though my head about this build and what to use it aint funny! lol.

I have been wanting a DMG kit forever and now I got one!"thumbsup"

Thanks! I have been trying to come up with a name for it...so far I have "Bad Attitude", "The Bandit", "Ronin", "The Gringo", "Iron Duke", "Gravel Grinder" but leaning towards "Bad Attitude"....

Dual shock? What about "Totally Shocked" or "The Shocker" and use the shocker symbol for the logo.

allanon1965 03-15-2014 10:10 PM

Thats not too bad...but it is missing something....was also thinking about mill-rat since i work in a steel mill....lol

DrDiff952 03-16-2014 01:43 PM

Can't wait to see that stiffy in person!

allanon1965 03-16-2014 04:06 PM

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

that makes two of us! I am thinking of making my own panels out of galvanized steel..somewhere around .0150 Gauge. I used the same stuff but a bit thicker, about .0197 gauge for the diff skid on my 1.9 wraith and it is far slicker than the plastic housing.

I just need to figure out how I want to make them now.

If you have the VP's already you know the quality of the design and machining. Looking at the GCM's, while they look good, I'd say stick with the VP's.

Jerry does kick-ass work, you will love the chassis. "thumbsup"

I probably will run with the VP axles...I like them in my wraith I have now...

So do you have plans for that brushed Crawl master 5 pole motor?

allanon1965 03-18-2014 03:36 PM

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

well, its a torque master pro 30t and I havent decided yet...I am trying to decide which ones to keep lol.. I have the 30t tm pro, I have the tm 27t sport which is about 50% worn on the brushes, and then the tm expert 27t thats still in my scx10. I am going to convert the scx10 to brushless as well as soon as I can afford it..

I also just got shipping confirmation on the DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy kit..it will be here friday!

lol, yup....I am trying out different ideas at the moment, right now its a 1.9 stiffy...looks pretty good, but its just what I have borrowed from my 1.9 wraith..

paitence grasshopper....here they are, preliminary pics...I am mocking this up with parts I have on hand. I will be changing most of these things out as time goes along, but wanted to try this out.

This thing climbs like a mountain goat! I am using scx10 axles and while I like them, the turning radius sucks. I will be most likely changing the axles out to wraith axles in the near future but these allow me to run it now!

Can't let this one go... The GCM's are MUCH more durable than the VP's. If you want pretty, stick with VP. If you want rugged, get the GCM's. As for the cHubs and Knuckles, stick with VP. The VP cHubs couldn't fit any better/tighter to the GCM's.

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

well i want durable for sure..I do beleive it will be the GCM's"thumbsup"

You won't regret it. I have both, and I love both, but the tolerances on the GCM's at the knuckle are perfect for the VP knuckles. Jens and Chris did a great job designing and producing them.

Do you feel the dual shock setup makes the difference or what?

I want to save up for a stiffy but havent decided short or long back.

allanon1965 03-21-2014 09:58 PM

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

my plans for this are not set in stone but this is pretty close:

Tekin 412ROC 3100kv
Castle Creations Mamba Max Pro Sensored
SuperShafty Bulletproof Wraith Transmission
GCM Metal Head Wraith A-13 Axle Housings
Vanquish CVD Axle Shafts
MIP Driveshafts
Axial Rear Axle Shafts
Gmade 103mm Piggyback Shocks
Pro-line 118mm Powerstroke Shocks
Vanquish C-hubs
Vanquish Knuckles
Vanquish Steering Linkage
Vanquish CMS
Vanquish Pan Hard
Traxxas Revo Links
Pitbull Rock Beast II
Motoworx Racing 2.2 8 Spoke LE Aluminum Wheels
Warn 9.5 CTI Winch

Things yet to be determined:

Front bumper, needs to have winch mounts
Body panels
Lights
TX/RX
Battery, 3s 5000maH minimum

I know this is gonna cost plenty:shock: , but a little at a time will make it ok "thumbsup"

I do feel it makes a noticeable difference...although I dont have the shocks that are recommended for this yet, the ones I am using prove to me that it is a nice upgrade. It seems to flow much more smoothly over obstacles in my yard.

Now I need to get it out to a more diverse terrain.

I do beleive I will buy another stiffy kit, but this time a longback one...or maybe the widows web stiffy:)

I put in some lights I had laying around, these will be replaced by better ones at a future time, but for now they work. I mounted the rear lights to the roof panel because I didnt want to mount them to the stiffy...its too pretty :)

I really need to get a better camera...

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

thanks! its a little ugly right now, but it will get better looking as I get more money!

I am kinda liking the scx10 axles more and more as I drive it...I am debating whether or not to go with wraith style axles or stay with the scx10 axles...

TheScaleAddict 03-24-2014 06:21 AM

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

I'm sure Chris (GCM Racing) will build the tubes at whatever length you want. Wider than a SCX10 and more narrow than a Wraith. That way you can have a bit of the best from both worlds. ;) Only trick would be in fabricating your shafts. The solution to that isn't too difficult though.

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

I never thought of that...maybe I could have them make the axles too? make it a package deal with a couple spares as well..

He can't/doesn't make CVD's though. I would suggest getting the longer Wraith CVD's and cutting them down to the length you'd need. As for the rears, you have more options there. You could get Creeper Bob to hook you up with custom length Ti axles, or you could fabricate your own from the longer Wraith ends. Personally, I would do it myself. Once I had them cut, I'd hand file the tangs to get them 'just' right. I'd recommend using the Locked Up RC FI spools. I have nearly everything you'd need in stock. It's not too terribly difficult, and the end result would be worth the effort.

allanon1965 03-24-2014 08:06 AM

Re: allanons DMG Dual Shock Shortback Stiffy Build!

sounds like a plan to me...I have the locked up FI spools I got from you already in my blue flame wraith so I would definitely do another set in this one! Now to figure out what width would be the best to go with...
