Is there a metal upgrade gear for the 80T spur gear?

Hey Guys.....

Just picked up a Wraith for my son for his 9th birthday, and he has had it less than a day and a half and stripped out the 80 tooth spur gear :x :lmao: I want to be mad at him, but after 25 years of rock crawling Rubicon and destroying my fair share of real stuff, all i can do is laugh and say the apple does not fall from the tree. Plus it is teaching him how to start wrenching on his own stuff

So i was wondering if anybody knows of a steal gear replacement so i am not putting another plastic gear back in it again? I have looked high & low on the internet, but have not found anything, so i figured if anybody new you guys would.

OR .....should i leave it plastic so it is the weak link so he does not start ripping other stuff up?

Go with 32P plastic spur, they hold up pretty well in my heavy Wraith with a RC4WD two speed trans and Tekin ROC412 motor

Thanks for the info..

I am new to the R/C world, so will the 32P plastic spur slow the Wraith down dropping from a 80 tooth?? and i would imagine i would also need to change out the drive gear on the motor to match the new 32P gear?

Looks like I'll be getting a set once mine are dead. Brushless powered now.

My $ .02 is to go with a Robinson Racing replacement and eliminate the need to attending issues in that part of the Wraith again anytime in the future.

I will also say not to be mad or blame him for the stripped gear.
99.999% of the Wraiths come with the pinion & spur out of mesh and or the motor or gear set loose resulting in a near immediate self destruction the very first time more then a slow roll across the flat living room floor happens.

As much as I'd like to say your boy is the next 1:1 rock racer in training with a heavy trigger finger, I instead will sadly have to blame Axials' assembly team:evil:
It's a very common problem with new RTR Wraiths

Yes, you'd need a matched 32p pinion gear for the motor, too. 32p gears have deeper teeth on them, so they can take more abuse than the stock 48p gears. And you can usually fund Traxxas gears at your local hobby shop. Lots of them carry the Robinson Racing stuff, too, but Traxxas is the most common. And they'll bolt right up to the stock Axial slipper unit. You'd likely want to go with something like a 54t-56t spur gear and a 13t-14t pinion to keep the stock drive ratio. I run a 56t/13t combo with my Tekin Pro 4 3300kv and it works great!
