Default Narrowing rear axle

Alright, so I decided that I'm going to try narrowing my rear axle. Had planned on running Curries, with a rear scx10 axle to be narrower.but figured why not give this a shot first. So my idea is to take out the 50mm section between the shock/link mount and pumpkin.

So, I have 99% of it figured out. At that width it will perfect fit the short side universal and also planned on fitting an aluminum or brass rod on the inside to increase durability where I removed the section.

What I'm not 100% sold on is how to reconnect the 2. I thought of gluing it and/or using my soldering iron to melt the plastic back together. Things of that nature. I could always put something around the outside but that deters from the scale look I'm wanting.

Any input y'all may have or any idea's no matter how crazy would be greatly appreciated!

(Also, the reason I don't want to just put in a normal SCX10 Axle is that I think they look stupid and not scale. Also this is my test so that once I do swap to Curries I can shorten the other axle and run the wraith axles on my upcoming SCX10 build)

Brass rod and go to your local Home Depot and pick up a 2-Part plastic epoxy.

Apply the epoxy on the brass rod that has been pressed into the existing axle tube and then slide on the cut part. It's as strong if not stronger than the stock housing when it has dried.

Awesome man! Thanks! Do you remember off hand what size brass rod? I could always measure but prefer to have everything set before I start cutting things in half lol

Finally got it, used some 3/8" pins though had to loosen up the hole in the axle a little bit with the drill. Came out good! Instead of screwing around with fabricating an upper link mount I decided to just run a 3-link in the rear similar to the front but just mounted on the top screw for now.

Opinions?

Finally got it mounted with a modified/simplified 3-link in the rear. Still missing the short axle but thinking of ordering a set of rear SCX10 axles, only 0.3mm difference in length. Can't wait to see how it performs, hopefully the rear will get caught up on obstacles less often when turning!

The the other tire mocked up using a large pin to hold the back left tire on. Looks good to me!

its hard to tell by your pics, but why couldnt you have mounted the tops to the stock upper mount? or are the shocks too short?

Your going to need a fourth link or a pan hard to keep the axle in complete control but it's definitely intriguing.

A panhard could easily be made, just haven't gotten into that yet. And if you look at the earlier pics the shock angle was too toed inward. This was the fix for the time being

Yea the shocks would appear that they should work fine in your latest pics.
