Thumbs up DeathStar 2.0

Hey guys, I'm finally building another rig after owning a CR-01 for many years. So instead of buying a kit and not using a majority of the parts, I've decided to build a Wraith from scratch using mostly aftermarket parts. This build is all new to me, so I'm learning a lot along the way, especially from this site.

Here's a list of the parts I've slowly been gathering:

- VP panhard kit (black)
- VP CMS kit (black)
- Axial HD 38T/13T gears front and rear
- Axial rear axles
- Axial aluminum hexes
- DLUX Fab no slop knuckle bushings (required some sanding to fit properly)

- HR aluminum tranny case (black)

- Battery forward plate
- Carter Fab aluminum ultimate front inner fenders (powdercoated black by me)
- Carter Fab aluminum rear inner fenders (powdercoated black by me)
- Carter Fab aluminum rear tray (powdercoated black by me)
- Integy aluminum esc/radio holder (black)
- Integy aluminum rear shock mount (black)
- Integy aluminum front shock mount (black)
- Integy aluminum battery holder (black)
- Integy aluminum frame cross brace (black)
- Integy aluminum hood rear brace (black)

- RC4WD Warn 9.5cti winch
- BGR Fab Moody Special cage (powdercoated black by me)
- BGR Fab v3 Sliders (powdercoated black by me)
- Werty Made custom front bumper with d-ring mounts (powdercoated black by me)
- RC4WD Viking winch thimble
- RC4WD King Kong d-rings

- Mad Skinz half bikini top
- EXO radiator & fans

- Pull Pal RW-60

- Holmes waterproof BRXL
- Holmes 13T Crawlmaster Pro
- Savox SW-1210SG Waterproof servo
- Spektrum SR300-WP waterproof receiver
- HeyOK 2-position winch controller
- Castle 10A BEC (waterproofed)
- Aluminum servo horn

- Pro-Line 2.2" Swamper TSL's
- Crawler Innovations 5.5 Double Deuce foams(medium - front, hard - rear)
- Locked Up 2.2" SLW Rock Cutters
- Locked Up Trail Ready-Inspired rings

Here are a few pics of the NIP parts I started with. So far I've built both axles and have the tranny partially finished.

I added some Locked Up RC scale hardware after seeing them on DMG's Cannibal build.

Why does the rear axle look so much wider than the front?

Thumbs up Re: DeathStar 2.0

Just a small update with some new parts. It's taking a long time to gather up all this stuff, but the end result will be well worth it.

Axial cage pieces, frame rails, seats, EXO radiator parts, Mad Skinz bikini top, Castle BEC:

Integy aluminum cage pieces:

And the best piece so far...BGR Fab Moody Special cage that will soon be powdercoated black:

This gonna be something awesome. Seems like an expensive build, but halfway into my kit build and upgrading along the way I'm going to end up in virtually the same boat (that still won't be as nice as where you're going to end up). I think you have made a wise choice sir.

Just a small update: I got a set of 2.2" Pro-Line TSL's from Tower after receiving a $10 off a $50 order e-mail coupon...and they qualified for $1.99 Super Saver shipping.

I know I've spent a lot of cash on this build so far, but I've only spent maybe $25 on shipping. I try to stagger my orders so they add up to the specified amount in order to receive free shipping.

What is this 'Black Magic' powder you are referring to?

It's the name of a powder for powder coating...it's like a semi-gloss black and is its own unique color.

I used it on a few RC sprint car cages and other parts a long time ago and knew it was perfect for this Wraith build.

Thats a sick color. I must find a place to do this!

Also, I'm trying to piece together the scale hardware from Locked Up RC, for the Currie axles, what scale hardware did you end up getting?

Just another small parts update. I got my interior lexan that will be painted black, detail parts, gear cover and a small Venom 3S LiPo.

Now I just need a metal bumper and some wheels, either VP or Locked Up, and I should be ready to build this thing.

I made a little progress on this beast and took some better pics with my Nikon since I'm getting ready to shoot a friend's wedding tomorrow. I drilled out the front hexes for the 5mm stubs, bolted up the VP pan hard mount, and put the ends on the VP links before bolting it all to the center skid.

This is a dumb question, but does anyone know if I have all the links in the right spots and the curves are facing the right way?
