| Smoked my Holmes Crawlmaster Pro
Just out in the backyard messing around on the few small rock piles I have, and the 16T motor, with about 10 packs through it, let out the magic smoke. 56/13 gears on a 5000 3s lipo. Bought the motor with the brxl late march so I think it's past it's warranty. Checked motor temp a few minutes before the smoke, ESC and motor were both about 140 degrees. Kind of disappointed for a $80 motor. Guess I'll use this as my excuse to try the mmp and the roc412. |

the page for the crawlmaster pro has this right at the top... IMPORTANT!! For use in the Axial Wrath on 3s lipo (11.1v) you must use a 16t pinion to avoid overheating the motor!! its a shame to toast a great motor by running with gearing that is out of its range..I have several HH motors that all are still turning out awesome torque on 3s but I am not gearing them out of their range. I can tell you this for a fact, the temperature inside that motor was way more than 140 degrees to cause that kinda damage outside. to me it looks like a brushless setup geared properly will be your best bet for your style of driving. I dont mean to offend you in any way, but to me I would have put that 80 towards the roc412 instead of burning this one up, geared that way... |

I guess I was thinking they meant 16t pinion with stock spur, and 48p, figured 13t would be good, at a 4.3 ratio on my 32p stuff. No offense taken, I've been in helis and planks most my life, still new to crawling - so I'm happy to get suggestions. |

| Re: Smoked my Holmes Crawlmaster Pro yea, I think they mean the overall ratio to be 5.25 (84/16) or lower.. 32p would be 56/10 for 5.60...sometimes the motor plate needs to be modified to have enough adjustment for the 10t pinion.. my brushless tekin I have at 56/11 for 5.09 which seems to be ok for my wraith..

After I did the math I realized that's what they meant. Lesson learned.

I run 32p 56/12, 4.6 ratio, on 3s with a HH 27t Torquemaster Pro and temps have been good so far.

| Re: Smoked my Holmes Crawlmaster Pro Yep, and I am running 32p 56/13, on 3s with HH 27t TM Pro and temps are good as well. But this was a 16t CM Pro and they have different tolerances. This is a hard way to learn this lesson, but it just shows how important gearing really is.
