Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm building my first rc, wraith builders kit.

Components are as follows
Mamba Max Pro ESC
Castle CC BEC
Holmes Hobbies Crawl Master 540 brushed motor
sky lipo 3 cell battery
Futaba 4 pl controller

I have it all wired and have checked the connections, all is good. I don't have castle link, but if I turn it on under full throttle I can get the ESC to calibrate. After calibration the motor just barely turns and seems like it's barely getting power, shuffles back and forth. It is wired for standard brushed motor with the BEC off the battery, white wire not used on the castle and red and black to the motor.

Any ideas? Reverse on the controller doesn't even turn the motor, forward makes it jump a hare and tick on power with slight movements.

I am wondering if I need castle link to adjust settings in the ESC or if it is a bad ESC.

I have it wired like this, except the white wire is not used since my motor is brushed:

Go through the MMP user guide again to double check your setup. There's a section in there for manual programming via your radio (pg 19). Make sure you have set the MMP motor type for Brushed Reversing (pg 31).

you need the castle link to set up the ESC for brushed motors...much easier than the manual way..

Save yourself some time and headache and get the castle link. There is so many settings in the mmp the castle link unlocks.

x2 I did this when I installed my set up. The MMP is smart enough to learn what you want it to do you just have to train it.

Only kidding
Seriously though just get the castle link or find a buddy that has one. It makes life so much easier down the road.

Thanks. I'll get the castle link cord and report back. Counting the blinks for manual programming is way too tedious, castle link it is! I attempted to set it up by yes/no controller answers, that was hopeless. Thanks! I'll report back....

Sorry - does the car move freely when you push it around on the floor?

Glad to hear it! Grabbing the CastleLink was the way to go. Sometimes I'm too impatient to stop and go get the right part so I would have fought with that infernal manual-beep-programming-doohickey until it worked.

Same, I wanted it to work immediately, but taking one step back was the way to go. Almost pointless to have such a capable ESC such as the MMP without the castle link. Glad I bought it. Now time to tune and play. I'll get some pictures up in a bit.
