Default Shocks - PL Slash Rears vs. King vs. G-Made Piggys

Looking to upgrade my composite Traxxas Big Bores w/ red springs to one of the above sets. Would like some info, pros/cons on each, along with what you, the Peanut Gallery, have found works the best for trail running/minor crawling/bashing....in other words what you'd expect to do with a Pro4 3300 & MMP set-up.

Ready........

Set................

GO!!!!!!!!!

I wish I had constructive knowledge like a lot of the guys on here but unfortunately i'm a noob father that bought an RC for my son & now we are both addicted.
My choices & build of my sons RTR is based equally on looks & performance trying for a realistic 1:10 take on what I do in the 1:1 world in crawlers & U4.

What we will most probably be running is 110mm King Piggybacks for looks above performance & length is ideal for what I have done with suspension mods. From my little research although good the Kings are not in the performance scale of the PL's or G-Made.

Performance based : PL's, G-Made & lastly Kings

i too was recently in the market for performance based shocks.

I just picked up a set of the Gmade Aeration shocks. same as the piggys but without the weight and bulkiness of the reservoir. and a set of there soft green springs while I was at it.
Gmade has the best price too.

How do you like those aeration shocks? Also, what length? Could maybe do piggys in the front and regular aeration in the rear.

I have the G made piggy backs 103mm I like them but after a year they leak, I've rebuilt them 2 times and still leak, not real bad but it annoys me, other than that I love how adjustable they are.

Where do they leak from? Cap or shaft? Could maybe just replace seals/o-rings?

most likely the cap considering its plastic and threaded. i put some teflon on my threads for extra protection. and no leaks here lol

Just finished building my Wraith running ROC412 3100 on 3S and MMP. Went with King coil overs and have been very happy so far. I've run them hard in a rock-filled culvert/gulley near my house, bashing in my backyard and golf course, etc. They handle a wide range of terrain and speeds well (with current gearing, I probably top out around 20 mph).

I have the GMade XD Piggbacks (103mm) also, they leak a touch but nothing terrible. I'll have to try the Teflon and see if that works for me too. I like them and the adjustable reservoir works also as it supposed to. I've never tried the PLs but I've heard good things about them.

Visually, of course I love the Kings because they're about as scale as it gets. The Piggys look/aeration shocks look really good, too. The ProLines just don't look like very scale to me, even though I'm sure they work well. Gonna' be a tough decision no matter which one I go with.

I used gmade pb's for a couple weeks. I hated building them. After two weeks I got tired of them leaking from the shaft, and picked up some 110 kings. For my setup, they definitely work better, and I think they look better. Because I lowered my truck, and run a CMS, the longer travel helped me a ton when crawling. I am definitely no suspension wizard, but the kings work great for me, still not a drop of a leak.

I have the ProLine Power Strokes. Specifically the slash rearsn. IMHO they are too long.
If I had it to do over I would have gone with the onrs for the slash fronts.
It is all about PERFORMANCE!

See I think 110 kings might be a little long. Maybe something in the 100-103 range. Guess there's not too much difference between the two, but I'm planning to run a CMS and I have the rear mount flipped, too.

I've considered the ProLines forever, too, though. What type of driving do you do, DrDiff?

Mostly trails and some crawling/climbing. I used to race on and off road. If you want effective dampening, you have to have volume a "Scale" shock can not hold the volume to dampen motion and control it as you need it to.

I've got a set of Traxxas big bores on now, that I assume came from an E-Maxx and to me, they just don't seem to have enough travel. My down travel limits out very quickly it seems. And they seem pretty stiff at that. Just looking to move to a better shock, of course for performance, but for aesthetics, too. Like I said....not going to be an easy decision no matter what I end up with.

the Power Stroke Slash rears are definitely shorter than a typical 110mm shock, might be perfect for your setup

I have slash rears. Good but optimal performance would be slash fronts.

Now see the PL Slash rears look almost identical to the King non-resi's in that pic. Look to be about the same circumference around the shock bodies and I would assume about the same volume. Assuming that's true, I'd think they'd have similar performance.

As for the ProLines.....maybe Slash rears in the front and Slash fronts in the rear? Don't necessarily need as much travel in the rear.

those non-resi Kings are the new short course shocks: King Off-Road Short Course Racing Shocks (Slash Rear) (110mm)
they are similar in size to the Power Strokes and can accept the Pro-Line springs
