Default confused - choosing a motor

I read the thread on motors and being new to RC's think by the end it was just a ton of numbers and names. There seems to be endless combinations!

I'd like to drop in a motor without having to do too much mods. i was thinking the Hobbywing 3656sd for 80$. I see Harley recommended a Teklin 13.5T Redline that is about $20 more. Both are sensored brushelss so is there a reason or not to choose one over the other? I'll be using a Castle MMP ESC and external BEC.

Thanks guys. Oh, and I see the recommendation Harley made for gearing and figure the Hobbywing should be geared that same as the Tekin (figuring they are about the same power/speed). I'd want/need a 32p Spur and pinion correct? I need to know the output shaft sizes to make a selection or are they pretty standard?

The hobbywing makes double the power of the redline and is 4 pole vs the 2 pole redline. 700w vs 1500w. Two totally different beasts. I run the 3656sd with a MMP on 4s. Its absolutely wild. The 3656sd has a 5mm shaft. I run 14/60 gearing.

Perfect, that's what I needed to know. It's still a decent crawler right, or is more high speed and bashing with the power?

It crawls great. I ran 75% expo when I was running 3s. I run 100% expo on my 4pl now that its on 4s and its very manageable and goes 25+ mph. It went 15+ when it was geared even deeper and was on 3s.

I ran my hobbywing on 4s and I couldn't control it! and I run short course trucks and 1/8 buggies, just to put it in perspective. I run mine on 2s and have it geared 11/56 with 43/14 hd gears in the axles.
