Default Tekin pro 4 heat

I just put a tekin pro 4 4000kv in my wraith it's hooked up to a rx8 gearing is 12/60 after 15 minutes of running it in the parking lot the motor was way to hot to touch is my gearing wrong or just to high of a kv for crawling?

How many cells? You are using zero timing advance, right?

You are honestly suggesting to run a 4000kv pro4 on 4s with 48p gearing?

Try switching to say a 54-56 spur and 13 pinion. Should help. You'll lose some top end but will gain torque and run cooler.

I have run a 4s/3s 15/81-87 gears in my Ultra 4 rig (wraith @ 8+ lbs) and ROC 412 3100kv, and have never changed it.....if you drive well then you will have no issues. Just broke down the trans this weekend and zero wear on both the spur and pinion, this is after racing Del Monte and The Doc to take third place in the series, so it gets pushed hard...so don't laugh, took third with the set-up.

That would make more heat and be faster on the top end and loose torque. You have it completely backwards.

Hell I guess. I've been driving for the last 4.5 hours after working all day on 3 hours of sleep

4000 kV might have something to do with the heat.

I agree volt up and gear down. Could gear way way down since its 4000 kV. It probly still always run pretty warm.

I'd try 12/60 maybe even 12/66 if you aren't running a cover and have extended outputs

Any binding?

-If your mesh is too tight
-bad bearings
-maybe you need to do some maintenance

You should be able to easily rotate your drivetrain and you truck should have no issues rolling around on the ground with no resistance. You should be able to put your truck on the ground and roll it about 10ft with a good push.

With a 5:1 ratio it should not be getting hot.

Though not the same exact setup, I'm running pro4 3300 with a 4:1 ratio on 3s 50c and I can run pack after pack blasting with no heat issues, it stays around 100°. My motor is 100% sealed up with RTV silicon too, that cant be helping, LOL, but It runs cool.

I run no timing changes completely stock esc programming I have the hot wire set up but I can't get it to work I have a 10t pinion coming and looking at bigger. Spurs possibly even a new pro 4 (3100kv). My mesh is good has all fresh bearings all lubricated and everything just got of from deployment so I took my time to get parts and maintain it get it back to running condition.

I've never seen a 5mm 10t pinion. Do you have a link?
