| Tekin roc 412 1200kv for wraith
Kinda tempted to buy a 1200kv Tekin roc 412. This would go in my crawler wraith (that mostly only crawl.) It may see some sand-pit-hill-climbs and trailing, maybe 5-8% overall... Now what I would like is a motor that has lots of torque for shooting up those hills. Imagine coming from a rocky slow pace part then the course goes straight up. I also figured this setup could be extremly efficient at crawl pace, thus giving long run times when I do crawling only. Today I'm runnning a sensored leopard 540 @2400kv on 3s. Wraith is geared 87/16 and runs on sedonas 5,5" tires. I calculated the theoretical top speed to 10.4 mph. This setup seems to have the extra speed needed for those hill climbs I do. But note, this is only calculated and I have no clue what the real top speed is? (I only had the leopard yet to run. So can't really relate to other setups in 540 - 1/10 scale) With 1200kv I figured I'd go 32p and use 56/15 gearing and run on 4s. What you guys think? Should I pick another kv? or does Holmes Hobbies have better options? |

Sounds like good idea, volt up and gear down is good, but with this motor you could do both for great torque, efficiency and wheelspeed. I like more wheel speed as long as it still crawls well, you can't have too much wheel speed imo. EDIT: I run 3s in everything and love it, my Wraith is 21T Titan motor geared 13/56 and it crawls great and has lots of wheel speed, brushless is next for me. My SCX Honcho runs exact same setup but on 1.9 Ripsaws. You'll definitely need 32 pitch gears. Last edited by Natedog; 05-10-2014 at 12:59 PM. |

I have one and I love it. In a wraith you could run it on 3 or 4 cell and run it on any gearing. If you only need wheelspeed 5-8% of the time on a dedicated crawler the 1200 is perfect for that. It has never even gotten warm on me. I have an 1800 as well and I prefer the 1200. Some places show limited stock so you should get one while they are available.

Limited stock, as in being discontinued? I will probably order from tower hobbies or eBay and hope it doesn't catch the customs attention... | |

My Wraith; 8.5lbs, Roc 3100kv, 4s, 15/87, and IMO, I would bump it up to the next kv, don't worry about the low end crawl of these motors, as i understand it , the low end crawl is what separates these Roc motors from the PRo4's. My wraith will "crawl" or do about 20 mph, it's good for the U4RC that I do. So IMO, I would rather have the RPM's on tap, also, I am using a RX8 and can induce a creep type setting with all the hotwire options, start up power, timming, etc.

I think to have much wheel speed at all you'll have to gear the 1200 way up which would hurt it's efficiency negating it's purpose. If you're crawling more than climbing I'd suggest gearing your current motor way down with 32 pitch gears. I run 11/56 with a pro 4 3300 and I get about 30 minutes of actual crawling with a 2200 3s pack and I have lots of wheel speed whenever needed. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Today I actually ended up in a situation were I would have wanted some wheel speed. Was climbing this huge smooth steep rock side and had to hammer it at some points. Maybe I really should go higher kv? If it is like you say that the roc can handle crawling regardless of the kv choosen then it should not matter. If I go higher kv I wont go 4s. Will save me some pennies, whatever that's worth... |

Yeah ive got mine in a 17" wb wraith based crawler on 8.5" rok loks. Its geared 6/66 but im gonna gear it up for more wheelspeed. I cant speak for 5.5 tires cause i dont run em. But, I can attest to the torque of the 1200. My buddy has a roc412 3100 and a pro 4 3300 and ive driven both. In a little rig like the wraith I would try out the 2300 on 3s. I have the 1800 and its a little fast for me. I think it comes down to whether or not you want "realistic wheelspeed". I run rc crawlers at slower speeds cause its a replacement for 1:1 wheeling. If i have too much wheelspeed, I dont have as much fun. Eitherway I believe that a 1200kv roc 412 on 4s in a wraith at 5:1 gearing would be better than a 3100/3300 on 2s with 6.5:1. Side by side comparison. |

Funny you would say 2300/3s - I ordered the 2300kv just now. After the suggestions not making it easier for me to decide I decided I just needed to start somewhere. The 2300kv being in the middle of the range sort of and being close to the kv I have now just slightly lower I figured I have a good startin point. Plus, it can take 4s if I feel the itch. This will be run on 3s 2200mah. |

I had a 1200 kv roc412 in my wraith, it was super slow, I got a 1850 pro4 hd, it had all the torque the do big hills, and the torque to push 18/54 32p gears and nit get over 130 digrees. Scale wheel speed and great performance.
