Default Stripping the color off VP?

Is it possible to strip the color off of VP parts? I ask because I am in desperate need of a VP stage one kit to get my rig up and running but all i can find anywhere is the orange set. If it is possible, how, and what color would it be underneath?

You can remove the anodized color with Greased Lightning Cleaner.
Greased-LightningŪ Super Strength Cleaner

It has a very strong level of sodium hydroxide in so you have to use safety glasses and gloves at a minimum.

Submerge the part in the full strength cleaner. It will take between 5 to 15 minutes to remove the color. You have to watch it so it doesn't stay in too long and turn black.

You will need to sand the part before painting with several grades of sandpaper course to fine until you restore the polish on the metal.

Paint the part with high temp paint. I use grill paint for black. Put on 3 or more coats. Let dry for 72 hours.

Put it a 400 degree over for about 1 hour to bake the paint. You will need to have all of the windows open and the oven will have to air out before you can cook food in it again.

You need to suspend the part so it doesn't touch your foil lined pan or you will have repaint the side that touched and re-bake it.

Beej, are you going to paint them or just strip them? Once the anozided coating is removed they will be mostly bare aluminum (dull silver). You'll want to sand and polish at least, to make them look good. If you want to paint, I prefer epoxy based paint. It's getting harder to find, but it's bullet proof. The only thing better is powder coating. I had to go to my local automotive paint store to find rattle cans of epoxy paint last time I bought the stuff.

BUT, if you're going to paint anyway, why strip them? Sand the anodized coating and paint over the top.

True, I guess i could always just paint them. I was thinking stripping so I culd have the raw look. I want a silver stage one kit but they are still 2 weeks out according to VP. Then again after i order the orange ones, wait for shipping, sand, paint, install, etc.. It may just be better to wait.

I have always used easy-off oven cleaner. No need to sand them after like slowpony said in order to polish them either. That would just be more work. I always go right to the polishing wheel after giving them the easy-off treatment.

Do you have to maintain the polish every so often or is it good once polished? I am considering stripping the anodizing off a few parts on my 1.9 wraith

It depends on if you want to have a nice luster to it or not.
