Thumbs down 2 fried motors and a servo just today

I just got a new Wraith and fried the stock motor in about 10 mins. I bought a 55 turn atomic motor and fried that in about 20 mins. During that time the stock servo started freaking out and died too. My first thought was that something in the tranny or drive line was binding but they are all free as a bird. I called the 800 number and talked to product support and they think that it is the receiver causing the issue. Could that be?

How many times are you going to post this?

Yep it sucks but I could do that to a rtr wraith in less time.
The product has limits & you exceeded them to find the 1st two weak points of the rig.

Probably not. How are you driving it? Binding the servo a lot on rocks or something? That will cause it to go out quick. Honestly the stock electronics leave tons to be desired.

As far as the motors, it's geared too high most likely. Are you running 3s lipo? I suggest dropping to a 16t or smaller pinion to stop overheating the motor. Good rule of thumb, keep a 5:1 pinion/spur ratio. 84 (spur gear) divided by 16 (pinion) is 5.25. Stock is 84/20 I believe, which is just too high.

Make sure your slipper is set up properly, tighten all the way down, then back it off 1/4 turn.

That you only post your question in one section.

Was the 55t timed correctly for the rotation of you wraith?

Stock spur is 80t... Even worse.

get an 87 tooth spur gear (it will fit in the cover.)
get a 14T pinion gear that will get the gear ratio up to 6.21:1.
It will be slower but it will also keep those motors from getting so hot the cook the comm.
Run at that ratio & feel the motor often during the first run.
If its cool the whole time you can increase the pinion size a tooth at a time & test the temp after running.
The servo is simple, Buy a Hitec that has at least 350 oz of tourque.
I had a RTR wraith & went through all this when I got it (as many have)

As you can see from the responses here

Some are fine with a 5:1 ratio
I was above 6:1
No easy answer these are ballpark starting points (your driving style & terrain is just too variable to nail what motor & ratio.)

I loved my 35 turn brushed on 3s with the 87 / 14 gears.
Others may say different.
You need to feel the motor allot while driving & adjust till the speed is where you want it & the heat is acceptable.

Get a new motor, and a new servo, gear it properly, you'll be good to go. I had the similar issues with my RTR also.

I'm running an 84 spur/16 pinion. The truck is still quick on the trails but I'm going to drop to a 15 pinion because the motor gets a little hot still.

READ through all the stickies and any other threads that peak your interest. There is a ton of great info to be found on here.

I'm running 84/18 crawl/trail with a traxxas 21t 550 and it runs great for my servo it's a hitec 7954. I recently upgraded my tx/rx to a mx-v because my throttle pot went out on my stock remote
