Default ax2 and .....

Trying to find a happy medium here. I've read multiple threads where people have done either motor, RR slipper or complete esc/motor, RR slipper and shafts. Well, I'm most of the way there. Currently running a sidewinder v1, ax2, new axial 20t motor and mip's. I'm sure I'll get to the lockers eventually but I'm not sure the stock motor will put me where I want. Now, I've seen the threads on gear ratios, so don't bash me and tell me to go there please.
My ideas are/were:
-running an extra brushless motor I have from my Slash
-add RR slipper/spur
BUT
-slash motor doesn't fit
-RR slipper I had on my original trans doesn't fit. The pin is smaller than the one that came with the ax2.

So, my questions are. IF I do a RR slipper/spur, which one fits the ax2?
Since I can't fit the traxxas motor, how would say a 3800kv castle fit?

Note: This is mainly trail/crawling. Just want that burst from high gear for the random punch on a hill climb etc.
And forgive my ignorance. I've been working on the build itself being where I wanted it. Now it's electronics time (currently stock lighting, winch, ax2 trans). And it's currently completely waterproof.

If you go to a brushless motor with the AX2 you'll want to upgrade the output shaft right away. The front of it will sheer at the e-clip that holds the front gear in place where the shaft is notched. RC4WD sells the heavy duty version seperately (found here).

I run the Robinson Racing Gen3 slipper clutch in my wraith from a slash 4x4. Works great. SuperShafty.com sells a 48p version of the same clutch as well.

Current setup:
3300kv Pro4
AX2 trans
Mamba Max Pro Speed Control
10a B.E.C.
3s Lipo
Hot racing lockers Front & rear

This rig breaks parts left and right. My next upgrade is to get aluminum axle housings because my setup is taking the ring gear and cocking it to one side under hard accelleration or steering and causing the ring and pinion to strip.. Expect lots of problems like this if you drop in a brushless motor with the AX2.

Ok, hopefully this holds up for me this weekend.
3800kv w/sidewinder, ax2 with upgraded shaft, RR slipper/spur, MIP shafts, Vanquish axles/housings/lockers.

RR makes a steel slipper/spur for SCX and Wraith transmissions. Direct bolt on.

If you shim the pinion gear( the one that hooks to the driveshafts) out with a shim kit from Fast Eddy it helps with the bearing problem. I run same motor/ESC combo and have not had a bearing failure since.

You might need to open the channel where the pin goes into the slipper a little since you changed the shaft. I use the stock top shaft for 2 years now with no problems.

It's a common problem on wraiths running big power that they shred the pinion or ring gear in the axle due to the small bearings for that pinion wearing out quickly or wallowing out and allowing the pinion to wobble. In some cases the balls in the bearings have gotten in the gear mesh and broke something too.

The common fix is to use traxxas oilite bushings in there. It sounds counterintuitive but the bushings won't fail like a bearing can. They will wear so you have to keep an eye on them.

A better option is to pick up some dlux fab axle housings. $20 per axle. These have been modified with a much larger bearing to handle this kind of power.
