Default Motor and speed control for Wraith

So next year I want to be able to keep up with some of the Ultra4 guys.

I was thinking a Pro4 with a Mamba max or a Novak Crusher Brushless Rock Crawler System 18.5T or something similar.

My buddy has the Pro4 and power it has it all. Just want to get everyone else's opinion.

Right now I'm running a Tekin 35T RockStar and a axial AX-e from a stock wraith.

Anyone has a better combo to keep up?

MMP and Hobbywing 3556sd motor

Super fast and tons of torque. All for under $250, cheaper if you buy used or shop around.
Excellent crawler with gobs of speed on the high end.
I have it in my Wraith right now. I have the 4000kv motor and on 2 or 3s it crawls almost as good as a brushed motor.

Not a bad deal, I am looking at the XTREME Supercharged Combo (XS Series). Seems like the best deal and to go fast and slow if needed.

Take a look at the sc411 tenshock motors. Priced right, and as much power as the pro4 hd.

I can't speak for that specific ESC, but as I mentioned, there is a decernable difference between my hobbywing and my castle escs. Both are good the MMP just is smoother in the startup.

If you haven't read this thread, I would do it soon. It is the definitive source for ESC/Motor combos with the Wraith.
Choosing a motor and ESC for your Wraith - Gearing Added!

I am running a MMP with a ROC412 3100Kv. It is "part breaking-ly fast".
You will need to upgrade the transmission, drive shafts and axle gears to keep it running.

I'll second the MMP + 3656sd combo. You can get the pair for less than $200 shipped new on eBay and the 3656sd makes more power than the ROC or pro4.

What spur and pinion are you running with? Do you crawl as well?

It depends on how fast you want to go. I'm running a 3400kv on 4s.

That would probably be OK. It has a little bit less power than a pro4. For another $10 you could have a 3656sd and have more power than a pro4.

So the 3656sd is the Hobbiewing motor? Then the Mmp.

The hobbywing motors work fine

Also as a cheaper mmp, check out a traxxas et-3s. It's essentially an mmp, just alot cheaper in the eBay chop shops...

If you go this route be aware that you are limited to 3s unless you invest some time...

I am running an MMP/ pro roc 412 3100kv, 3s lipo, with stock gearing under drive and 36/14 over drive and it's super torquey with great speed still. It hauls a** but still has the perfect crawl ability. I strictly just rock crawl with the occasional wheel speed and never get hot/ overheat with a full battery run. IMO its the best combo for me. I think it's a great crawler/ U4 set up.
