Back in action.

Figured out my heat issue... I forgot to cut the power wire from the ESC to the RX. Blasted around the shop for 15 minutes this morning, ESC hit 102, motor hit 117. Much better!

Let's see what breaks next

Holmes Hobbies RX Bypass Adapter is the way to go, I've done it both ways for external BEC and this is the shiz! Priced right too, I ordered one for every RC and a couple spares.

I had adapters and splitters and connectors everywhere. Then I stripped them all out, ran the BEC to the RX, ran the servo to the RX and cut the power wire from the ESC. I think I dropped 2 pounds of wire and plastic The clutter was driving me nuts.

Made a few runs around the parking lot, everything was wet and mud is not my friend. On a half dead battery she hit 20.7mph. If you can get traction it will ride a wheelie

Temperature issue is still present. You run it hard, and everything stays nice and cool, but crawling heats things up really fast. ESC is too hot to touch in a few minutes.

Picked up a Traxxas ESC fan, I'll wire it to the receiver and see what happens. SW3 + fan and wiring is the same price as an MMP

That should work. Point of the zip tie up to clear the fan

Receiver died again, picked up a DX3C, and now I have random glitching issues

Split another Savox case too. Time to find something with a metal case. Hitec? Holmes? What's the new cool full metal cased servo these days?

Buddy picked up a yeti as well, now it's really time to fire up the john deere and move some dirt

Servo cases are still falling apart. My JB Weld ghetto fix only last 3 days. Back to replacing cases every 2 weeks If the HH servo ever comes back in stock I'lll be picking one up. I like the look of the Savox 1283, but $100 for a weaker servo is hard to accept. A metal front case would be really nice.

Finally fixed the bouncy rear end. Stuck a 1.9 pitbull on the 2.2 wheel, mounted over the "bed." All is good now. There just wasn't enough weight in the rear to work the suspension.

I broke another hole in the front axle housing. I like the weight, price, and function of the stock housings, but I may need to start looking at something aluminum. Diff gears have been flawless since I shimmed them up.

Killed inner rear pinion bearing. I had been waiting for this to happen, everyone talks about it. Fresh bearings and all is working again

I really like the look of the Slash body on this rig.
Sevo case breaking, how is this happening are you hitting the servo horn on rocks? Or is it something else?
I shaved down the stock plastic servo mounting tabs to pull the servo in closer to axle, to limit hitting servo horn on rocks. So far so good-(knocking on wood) U4RC race & multiple battery packs & servo still in one piece.

Definitely from hitting stuff. And barrel rolls. And jumps. Mostly hitting stuff though.

I didn't think to move the servo back, I will have to figure something out for my receiver box, but that's a great idea. Maybe flip the plate around and mount the servo from the back? Or just make a new plate. We have a race this weekend, should be a good day to test some new parts.

I've been using DMG skids on mine, and they are the shit. Take a beating and protect the pig very well. I use both front and rear. Definitely recommended, and you can keep the plastic housing.

Flipped the servo plate around, clearanced the plate to miss the arm. Misses the pumpkin by like 3mm

Time to make room for the servo to live. It's tight in there

The receiver box fits sideways between the shock towers. I have this thing torn apart so much, the zip ties are as permanent as I need

Did you notice any significant difference with the motor heatsink? Would it fit under the stock interior? It doesn't look like it would from the pics.

I doubt it work fit, it's pretty tall. There's some out there that much lower profile though. The 4550kv motor isn't rated for 3s, and I beat on it in 90* weather for an hour at a time, I don't know if it helps, but it definitely doesn't hurt.

Better to be safe than sorry right. Also have you thought of beefing up the servo mount to remove some of the cases deflection under load, or maybe use a piece of steel to surround the top of the servo between the mounts to help keep the cases from breaking? Kind of like how the dinky truss surrounds the servo.

It splits the case starting at the output, then sideways left and right. Mainly toward the long side, under the Savox sticker is a pin from the back of a gear. The crack runs to that hole, then continues on. I'm not an engineer, but I feel it is cracking from force being applied to the end of the horn.

I should add that I have never stripped the gears, nor have I replaced them. If the case was cracking from the gears forcing apart, I would expect to have gear issues as well.

A shield around the front would be ideal, but there just isn't room. My low ride height probably has a lot to do with that as well.

What about a servo saver? That way the initial shock can be dampened just enough to help. Or a plastic servo horn so it breaks and not the servo?
