| Roc 412 in wraith compared to brushed
Ok I hate to be repetitive so I'll apologize right now because I don't mean to be, and I'm almost sure a post like this already exists, but my search engine has been acting up on the computer and mobile. So my question is, I'm looking for a better motor for the wraith and I'm wondering what the crawling capabilities of a sensored brushless motor (in this case a roc412) would be compared to let's say a 35 or 45t Holmes hobbies motor? I'm guessing lower kv on a sensored brushless = more torque but I could be wrong. Thanks

Lower KV will have a lower rpm per volt of input and yes, more torque. Something in the range of 2000 or so will be pretty comparable to a 35 turn or so on 2s.

It depends on a lot of things. Driving style, motor kv, slipper set up and driveline. I went from a 13.5t novak to the roc 412 3100kv and first time out sheared an idler, second time out broke an output. I highly recommend building your trans and driveline if you go with An roc 412.

I have recently fitted a Roc 412 3100 kv on 3S. I have alloy trans internal gears 87 tooth plastic spur, 17 tooth alloy pinion and standard slipper tightened up and MIP shafts. I do some crawl and a fair bit of trail up a mountain. Would have 9 to 10 hrs of running so far, nothing broken and I give it a fair bit without being silly. Awsome crawl great speed, but I've being giving the slipper a bit of a work out.

What parts would you say would be a necessary upgrade ? And also would a 1200kv roc 412 be like a 45t ?

In the end the right motor is going to depend on what you are doing with your Wraith and how you drive it. If you mostly crawl then a brushed motor like the CrawlMaster is a good choice. If you mostly run trails and do a little crawling then the ROC412 is the one to use. | |

I would go with a 3100kv on 2s geared about 13/56 32 pitch. I run a pro4 3300kv on 3s, and a pro4 HD 3500kv on 3s. The 3300 runs in a stock wraith with stock transmission gears, stock drivelines, and axial universals. Set your slipper accordingly, and drive careful and plastic is forgiving. The HD on the other hand, has broke a rrp one peice wraith lower gear. Now if i could keep spur gears alive.

I agree, I run mainly trails and hills, I had a holmeshobbies brxl and 13t crawlmaster and cooked the motor on many different gearings, I got a mmp/3300kv pro4 was amazing but wheel speed wasn't scale. So I switched to a pro4 hd 550 1850 kv, torque for days, and will push tall gears.

First of all you can't really compare a brushed motor to a roc412. As a poster stated above, you will be able to push "tall" gears with these motors especially the 1200, 1800, 2300. These motors don't get hot. I have a 1200 and 1800. If you are running 2.2 tires, I would not recommend the 1200. Not enough wheelspeed. 1800 would give you "scale" wheelspeed. The 1800 is 33% faster than the 1200 and you can tell. For a 2.2 rig I would recommend the 2300. The original plastic stuff in the trans won't hold up. You will need 32p gears, steel idler, steel lower gear. About 45 bux of upgrading but its worth it. |

I run a 2300kv in a 2.2 scaler that is about 10lbs. With a Castle MMP esc it is top notch. As smooth as any brushed motor I've used. The key is to get the throttle curve set right on the ESC and you are good to go. I've had to use exponential to get smooth slow startups on other brushless motors, but not this one. This KV works great on 3S and you can step up to 4S for fun speed runs. Dna |

I'm just going to put it out there the stock stuff is a lot stronger the people think I have a wraith with the roc 412 on 3s and have been running it hard for about 5 u4rc races now and came in first in my last race and this is all with stock drive shafts and a completely stock transmission and pinion and spur. If you set it up right and check everything the stuff is pretty strong. I do everything with this rig from jumping it 5 feet to very slowly climbing hills in the race. I would check everything and install the motor and maybe do the other upgrades down the road. |

| I have one completly built up rig, and a mostly stock truck. They both have a mmp, and the built is an HD, and the wraith is a pro4 3300kv. The stock stuff is pretty tough, most of People switch it all out when they get their brushless system, and never run the plastic stuff. I ran the stock truck really hard this weekend and had nothing fail, other than a screw backing off of the driveshaft. The rig is currently pending a trade, and if it is traded it will get a steel transmission. Plastic is forgiving, and can flex in tough spots. Don't drive stupid and it'll last. I drive it much different than i do my stainless chassis. I have the drive more careful with the heavy truck because it breaks the metal parts. |

The trans gears will strip I stripped them out with my Titan 550 but I do lots of hardcore crawling with it.

Brushed motors also require matience. Only thing I've ever done to my brushless motors is squirt some bearing lube in the bearings. Only long term matience is bearings, and I've yet to have to change a set

What would I have to do to waterproof the roc 412, if possible, I know the esc isn't waterproof, but the motor
