Default My wraith is smokin!

Not in a good way! 3 weeks old, used for mostly crawling, some high speed(wraith high speed) stuff.

The axial battery connection gets pretty got too.

I email axial but haven't gotten a reply yet. This isn't normal right? Seems pretty premature. Already had to replace the servo because the gear stripped out.

Notice it is labled "Ready to Run" and not "Never needs repair"!

It is well known that the rig ia geared for too much speed. People have talked about the changes needed for years now.
A little research may have helped your rig last longer out of the box.

I made the recommended changes to my wraith's gear ratio, but the first real crawling session I spent with it had the stock motor hot as hell. Still running though.

I'm a 1:1 crawler so I'm new to all this. The gearing does seem tooo high. I suppose that may have done the motor in. Just wondering if it's super common.

I'll start lookin at new motors.

Servo goes out pretty much immediately for most individuals. My friend and I got wraith's at the exact same time...I am still running on my stock original 20t...he however burnt up two 20t stock motors and two 19t integy's...some people have it some don't.

No offense but by the looks of your links skid and housings it looks like you drive like my friend which isn't necessarily a bad thing

Thanks for the replys. I haven't taken this rc apart yet, what's best to change or a lower gear ratio? The motor?

Hahahaha I crawl rocks mostly. I've used it quite a lot in the last 2 weeks. (Before servo took a shit)

Under my truck looks the same ...

There's some useful info from Harley on gearing and motor choices.

The stock pinion gear attached to the motor is 19-20t if I remember right. You can drop the size down in the 14-16t range for a little less top speed and it should help cool the motor down. Just try going down a tooth size or two at a time and stop when your motor temps are good. You might also check to make sure you don't have any binding putting extra strain on the motor (I would look in the driveshafts first). Hope you get it figured out and back on the go.

Wraith Beginners Guide. This link may provide some useful info. I went with a 87t spur and 16t pinion and still had a hot motor. May be that I'm just a bad driver. I'd get it into binding situations and the slipper isn't doing it's job.

I followed the Wraith beginners guide as well and burned up a motor. Seems his recommendations are too high for what I do. I found that 62/11 with a 35t torquemaster expert or 62/10 with a 13t crawlmaster pro kept the motor within the recommended 160 degree temp on 3s. I mostly crawl but there is still enough tire speed with either setup to do some cookies. Holmes Hobbies also suggests a similar setup assuming that you are sticking with brushed motor.

This has so much to do with the drivers and not really the cars.. I have 5 months on my wraith and both the factory 20T and servo is still going strong. My failure list to date is the AE2 ESC, didn't do a good enough job on the water proofing and fried it under water. The two rear carrier bearings in the diff housing seized up and I twisted a rear drive shaft playing on some rocks.

Did the driveshaft mod with the spare female ends, this works great and improves strength immensely over stock! I am noticing a slight play in the output to the servo, so I'm not sure how long that will last, but it's still working fine up till now.

My servo developer play after a couple days. How much do you use it though? For 3 weeks I was putting 2-3 batteries a day through it. I drive it hard. Undercut ledges, lots of repetitive stuff. I have fun with it to say te least. Anyway I've ordered a new motor.

Mine would last a long time if I drive it like a grandma and only twice a year

My servo was dead on second day, motor smoked up within a week. Savox servo and a crawlmaster with suggested gearing and I haven't had a problem all summer. It's ready to run but needs improvement to keep running.
