Does anyone know if this upgrade is worth it? cantilever suspension. I only rock crawl and want to try to get the most articulation out of my truck. What about adding HPI savage shocks for long travel? |

If you want more articulation than you have in that picture, then your crawling will get worse. Too much articulation is a bad thing. |

It can be worse but not always. I did the mod where ti u use the servo horns on the rear shockmounts. It works great for articulation with my 127mm integy shocks. Its not to useful if you go fast, but crawling I could tske way harder angles on up hills or down hill grades sometimes if it was.to steep it would bring itself over backwards but I limited the travel a little in the front and it did fine. See. It would lay the rim down on the table. And with 4ws it was nuts. Articulation isn't bad if you can drive it right. You cant go all rock bouncer or ultra 4 on it lol |

Good point... So what do you think about using the long shocks by HPI? Too long?

I too started off seeking max articulation and after hundreds of hours of tinkering and crawling I think the ideal amount of articulation is one tire height. All your shots above show your rig traversing uneven but basically level terrain. Try that on a 40 degree bank and your rig will flip unexpectedly when all the articulation lets the chassis flop past the balance point. I'd suggest working on a semi droop set up so you generally have a "normal" ride height but can drop a wheel down or let it get pushed way up. You want a wide range of motion...within reason. So setting up to stay about in the first third of shock compression works to achieve that. |

I agree. Thats what I hard to learn as well. Mine would sit with alot of droop so my skid height was relatively low. So I could do the banks because of sufficient down travel as well as up travel. How long are those shocks? It articulates alot but as mentioned how its sits now no most likely will topple over easily. Try and play with adjustments and droop settings etc you may find something that works for you

I think lower COG and weight distribution is the biggest factor for slow crawling. | |
