Default MIP drive shafts on extended wheel base

So I finally broke one of my modified drive shafts. They have held up great to 3S roc412 power. The only reason it broke was because the back wheel got plastic twisted around it and I didnt see it and tries to keep climbing.

Anyways I'm looking at getting MIP's but I want to know if they will work with a little longer wheel base? Its not stretched yet but I need to know how much longer if any they can handle before I buy some

The stock length MIP's aren't going to work for an extended wheelbase. If you go to SuperShafty.com, he is selling a longer male shaft by itself that will make things work for you.

Stock replacement MIP's will work just fine depending on how long you're extending the wheelbase.

Between 1/3" to 3/4" most likely

Split that distance between the front and rear and it'll be just fine. If you do it all on one end you'll have issues over about 3/8" over stock.

Are there any issues that are caused by extending the front also?

Not really. This rig has a 13 1/2" wheel base, the front drive line is stock length sitting right at 4 3/4" long end to end. The rear was extended by using a broken MIP cut near the bell welded to another MIP cut near the splines. It measures 5 1/4" long end to end.

That's the second time that MIP shaft has been brought up. I'm guessing neither of you that brought it up actually own it do you? It's a great piece if you want to kick one end waaaay out. It's an 1 3/8" longer than an a typical scx shaft so you'd better be ready to really extend it.

Try Junfac. They make hardened steel shafts in a range of sizes. My R1 Frankenstein (which uses Wraith axles, an SCX tranny, and ROC 412 3100 on 2s) needed something a bit longer for the rear than the Wraith MIP (which I run in my Wraith), but the extra long male MIP shaft would have been way too long. I chose the 120-150mm Junfac shaft, and it works great.

Don't have the build I used it on anymore, the use of the summit shift starts (completely collapsed of course) where the regular mips end. Depending on link length bias usually 13"+.

If you extend the front you will have servo clearance issues with the stock bumper.

You'll likely find in the future that the Junfac will fail on you. When the Wraith came out we commonly used those shafts since we were used to running them in other rigs. However, you'll find that the D-shape on the female shaft is only about 1/4" long and they end up exploding after awhile.

Stick to MIP for sure. Super shafty sells an intermediate length if you need something longer.

Thanks for the tip on Super Shafty. I had actually looked for something intermediate on their site but must have missed it. I'll definitely keep an eye out on the Junfacs. I've actually already had an MIP tear at the cup on the bone where the pin hole is located (the hole is very close to the edge of the cup), though that may have been an isolated occurrence.

Yup, that sucka is looooong!
I used it in my FOFF (14" wb) and had to cut it down.
