Default Wraith motor

I've been running both 17 & 27 turn brushed motors in my Wraith. The problem after a fairly short run time they are getting extremely hot. I've destroyed 2 motors so far. Also have the 80 tooth spur and 18 or 20 tooth pinion. Any ideas what I should be running? Don't want to run brushless, any help is appreciated.

What are you doing with it? Crawling? Bashing? Chasing the neighborhood kids?

Go with a bigger spur and smaller pinion. 80/20 is too high imo.

You need to gear it down. The motor is straining all the power it can give.ether get a higher turn motor, gear down or go brushless.

get that 80t spur out of there. Get an 87t. and try 16t pinion to go with it.

80/20 = 4.00 ratio
80/18 = 4.44 ratio
80/16 = 5.00 ratio
87/18 = 4.83 ratio

Changing the pinion gear will have a much bigger effect on the overall ratio. You could keep that 80T spur and run a 16T pinion.. I run a 87/18 setup and my temps remain stable with long runs + occasional hard blasts on hills etc. If you are a lead finger, gear down further slightly to protect the motor.

The factory 20T will last reasonably long on a geared down 2S setup.
If running 3S, try a Traxxas 21T 550 motor instead.

Depends on motor and battery being used. What are you running?
