Default 20T can't handle IROKS

I decided to trow on a set of 2.2 IROKS on one of my Wraith's today and the old stock 20 turn that is a year and a half old finally burnt up, the much bigger Iroks plus 3 ounces of weight in each front tire was too much for the 20T.

I'm impressed with the stock Axial motor for what it is, I don't want to break the bank on a brushless system and plus the stock ESC works great with a CC BEC, so I'm thinking about getting the Axial 27T, do you think the 27T will be enough torque to turn these beasts? I don't want to lose to much top end speed.

I was thinking about lower gears, but I wasn't sure if the 20T was what I wanted, I was thinking about running a 84 tooth spur and 18 tooth pinon or getting a 27 - 35 turn motor.

i personally prefer a faster motor with lower gearing. but thats just my opinion. im sure others will chime in shortly.

if youre a crawler, run the 20t with the SCX gearing, its much lower.

if you like faster, go with the 27 or even 35t, and run 3s lipo instead.

I here you bro, I like to crawl and bash, other then going brushless I think you are right, I just need to find the right combo for the 20t that I'm looking for. Also I'm going to replace all the bearings to relieve any friction.

Your motor doesn't get hot?

If you plan to go 3S, I would recommend the Traxxas 21T motor.. just break it in properly and you will have strong reliable power

Like a Holmes 35t, With lower gearing or stock gears? I don't want to loose to much top end.

I picked up a 14 tooth pinion and I'm going to try it out on my other Wraith that has the stock 20t, if that doesn't give me the torque that I'm looking for then I'm gonna get a different motor, probably a 35t, I will look at getting a Holmes.

The other thing you might want to look at is switching from a wheel weight to a knuckle weight. It will put a lot less stress on the motor turning lighter wheels and you will still maintain your balance. It is just easier on your parts all around.

I know that blue Monkey has knuckle weights, what do you recommend?
