MMP heating up quickly with pro4 4000

just went from a HH trailmaster 13.5 to a pro4 4000 for my wraith. Just use it pretty much for nasty hill climbs. now the esc heats up fast. fan comes on in the first minute of playing and is at 130 on the case in probably 2 minutes. running 14 56 and tried both directions on pinion with no change. a 12 and a 16. Havent changed any settings on the mmp. running sensored only mode. no advance or anything like that. anyone else have any heat on the esc with this combo?

What's the highest temp you have had? I have an RSX with pro4 4000 and run 11-56 the esc does get warm but i haven't temped it. I'm probably in the 120s. 130 isn't bad but i would keep an eye on it.

I shut it down at 135 I believe. but that was only running for maybe 2 minutes so it had nowhere to go but up. I've run several other motors in it before without the issue, and the mmp is only a month old. I may snag another mmp out of one of my other rides tomorrow and see if it does the same thing.

Gearing may be a bit tall. I had motor heat issues in my Wraith with a ROC 412 3100 on 3s running 12/56. Dropped it to 9-10 on the pinion and haven't had any heat issues since.

Yeah I'm with him I would gear down further maybe pick up an 11 and 10 tooth pinion and see where that puts you temp wise.

Motor hasn't cracked 110 yet. I will give it a go later on and see what it does.....if I have a 5mm 10t

135F ain't hot. You're good. Look at the CC website for temp range info. Solder flows at ~260C and the components still perform when the solder is in liquid form...they've confirmed that. I chopped my fan off because I hate to hear it run.

12/56 should be fine. I'm running 16/56 with a 3300 and temps are never an issue on motor, battery or esc. Are you using any boost/timing advance?

260 Celcius you mean!

gearing could be lower, I assume you are running 3s. But 135f on the heatsink isn't bad at all. 160f is where I like to cap it.

Re: MMP heating up quickly with pro4 4000

No not running any boost or anything. I tried 2s and 3s. I really don't think that it is way out of operating range but the fan kicks on within a few minutes and is about 130 on the case. I reset the mmp today then went back and did all my settings. This time when the fan came on it was 93 on the case. I think maybe I just have an odd unit that the fan is kicking on way early as it isn't supposed to until around 150. Of course it may be that temp internally but I doubt it with only in the 90's on the case

Mine is doing the almost exact same thing yours is doing, but mine is in my 1.9 truggy and I'm running 20/89 gearing. Motor stays cool or very slightly warm but my mmp heats up within a few minutes. Took the roc 412 out and put a HH brushed 13t in it and it stopped doing it. So with the roc 412 I am assuming it's gearing.

I'm not for certain whats going on with it. I didn't get a chance today to swap it out with another MMP out of one of my others so I cant confirm if mine is just being finicky or not. Actually just bought another new MMP off another member on here today so I may just wait for it to come in to try.

Re: MMP heating up quickly with pro4 4000

I am actually thinking about getting a 412 myself. I like the pro4's but the specs are nearly the same and I have a zillion 3mm pinions compared to just a couple 5mm.

I have 2 mmp's they both turn the fan on in low 90's I use a temp gun often, I built my dmg for hill climbs, my local spot has 20+ft big hills, I run a 1850kv pro4 hd and it gets 120 on getting a beat down. Just drop teeth on gears and see, what is your tire size?

I am debating over roc 412 3000kv or holmes hobbies 21T tourqe master pro
I already have evrything for brushed motor maintenance so i am not sure if its worth 250 for roc 412 and mmp or $30 for 21T homes armature

I like my roc a lot

Re: MMP heating up quickly with pro4 4000

You won't be disappointed with the roc412. As my mmp does turn the fan on and get warm, I still haven't had my roc heat up. And I run mine on 2s 3s and 4s. And it still crawls great and has explosive power when needed
