I also snapped a short side shaft ear, but when it did so it spit out, hung up, and ripped the knuckle off too. Thought i did something wrong but maybe it's a thing. My wraith was also a kit. I put in a cheap Integy (I know I know) and no more problems.

You got a part# on those Integy Shafts and where did you find them??? Ive looked for them but cant find them anywhere. Im not a fan of anything Integy but Ive got a guy in my group running them and he says hes had real good luck with them for over a year even on a MMP/ROC412 combo. For the Money Ive already spent replacing Axials they are worth a shot. Ive even heard some good things about their Beadlocks but never been brave enough to try them.

Ironically, I have snapped one of these, plus a Vanquish VVD twice. I have some older Axial Uni's that are still holding up well.

Gotta think Axial has a supplier quality issue. Based on the failure being a brittle fracture, I'm guessing that the heat treatment process happened but went awry. My gut says they would use a quenching process to harden the steel after heating it up. Maybe the annealing of the martensite in the quenched steel was at the wrong temp or not long enough and therefore left a really hard but brittle ear.

The only time I broke one was after I removed the mechanical steering stops. Even though the epa was set correctly the smallest amount of bind would over extend the steering then break the universal.

Typically that has been the case, however there is something happening as of recently. The typical situations don't seem to be applicable.

Well I had a new one fail about a month ago, I thought something jammed it up some how but the brake point looks just like all the pics in this thread. I bought another set and they have held up for one run so far, but time will tell. Hope they get this solve!

Even if it was just a bad batch, axial should acknowledge it and maybe give the customers who bought 2-3 sets a small gift card or something. I still have my wraith kit universals from 2 years ago and I'm currently building a wroncho now and I need universals. Being strapped for cash during the holidays, I won't even buy the axial ones out of fear of throwing money away. Might go with strc or integy. I know integy is cheap made shit but it looks like the universals aren't so bad

I bet they had to save money to pro duce XT yeti stuff and have been getting cheap shit.

I have twisted the flange at the wheel end off but never a ear. Something is definitely up.
