Wraith servo horn clearance?

According to my research, using just about any non-oem servo or horn requires either washers to extend the bumper, shaving the bumper, or a new or re-drilled servo mount. Is it just me or was this a significant oversight on Axial's part? Any other solutions come to mind?

No, I'd say this a pretty normal oversight on Axials part. The SCX has similar issues. Other apparently normal oversights are the upper link mounts on the truss not being centered, and the short side universal inner shaft is a little on the short side.

The solution is to drill new mounting holes in the stock plate. There is barely enough room to countersink the bolts properly. This will move the servo back about 5mm. Then flip the servo to keep the horn out of the diff cover and build a new drag link going to the RS (passenger) knuckle.

Moving the servo back actually improves the leverage ratio of the steering and helps keep the servo protected by tucking it behind the tie rod.

I had the same issue with a hitec servo and robitronics horn. My solution was to shave the bumper till you have the proper clearance. Easier than relocating the servo;-)

I had this issue also. Thirty seconds of flap disk to my servo horn and it clearances just fine

I've got an RTR and just built a kit. Both have Hitec servo with axial horns. I had to clearance a ton of the bumper on the RTR, but kit fits perfectly with no modifications on the kit.

Re: Wraith servo horn clearance?

I ordered a new Axial servo plate after ripping the bolts through my original RTR plate. The new plate was drilled in different spots, much narrower overall.

Too bad I got mad and made one out of 1/8" steel while waiting for it to show up, it probably would have helped my clearance issues. :lmao:
