| Trailing arm mounted shocks vs axle mounted shocks on a wraith?
Trailing arm mounted shocks or axle mounted shocks?!?!? What's the pros and cons of running trailing arm mounted shocks? I figure you could run a lil longer shock w/o raising the vehicle. I'm thinking of putting trailing arm setup on my wraith, just wasn't sure of the advantages ( if any) over the stock configuration. Any input is greatly appreciated |

Forgot to mention.... I mostly crawl with an occasional trail run

the trailing arm/shock setup is a more progressive design...I have 2 rigs with them. the issue with using them on a wraith is the stock top location is too wide. you can redesign the top mount setup to work with the trailing arm/shock design, just needs to be narrower. I love the way it works, and wont go back to axle mounted shocks on those two rigs...I crawl and trail run about the same, crawling is much better with the trailing arms!

Thanks for the input!! Yea I figured the top mounts would be an issue. I was thinking I would make some sort o bracket to mount em up top. Was thinking of mounting them higher on the chassis and using a longer shock

I don't see trailing arms...

correct.... if you read throught the first post I said im thinking of getting a trailing arm setup, so I was just trying to see if anyone else minded sharing their experience with the trailing arms on a wraith

Is that the DMG stiffy kit or who made that back half?

I run the BlueMonkey trailing arm setup in my wraith and its great, stiffens up the rear of the chassis pretty good, you need to do the battery forward mod thing if your running trailing arms though because you need to remove your battery tray. The flex is great, tires will now rub the chassis at full flex. I'm running dual shocks with a 110mm king and a stock wraith shock with the spring removed for dampening, works great.

Gotta realize trailing arms are all about maximizing travel out of a given shock length. The trailing arm is nothing more than a lever. Dual dampeners make zero sense other than being scale or showing off.

here are 2 views of my rig with trailing arms and my other rig without them. You can see the body has significantly less body lift and roll with the dual shock trailing arm, this rig has oil in both shocks, 25wt in the front one and 35wt in the rear piggyback. My other rig works better with oil in the piggyback shock and none in the front..each rig set up is different so a little trial and error is needed but well worth it.

EeePee, im running 2 shocks because I find the stock Kings don't have enough dampning, but with another shock without the spring the work perfect

Thicker oil works. Or different pistons.

sometimes its not as simple as thicker oil or changing the pistons...different setups respond differently to the same shocks, or oils or piston designs......some people dont mind or notice the differences some do. No right or wrong about it, just different. Find what works for you and leave it at that, if you change parts later down the road, you may find that you have to fine tune your setup again. no one rig is exactly the same as another even though they may be built with the same parts. |

trailing arms help you achieve more travel out of a shorter shock. at the same time, it creates a much smaller motion ratio and requires more out of the shock (spring rate and dampening).
