Default Brass inserts in Spawn method wheels

Anyone use threaded or press in brass inserts to repair stripped plastic? I am thinking about looking into some to repair my "factory stripped" wheels on my Spawn. The screws that hold the beadlock wheels together were all stripped from the factory but I like them and would like to keep using them. I'm concerned that once I drill out the old threads there won't be enough meat left for the insert to grab and work.

What size screws are in the wheel? McMaster-Carr has some for 2mm and 2.5mm specifically for plastic, part #94510A360 for 2mm and part #94510A370 for 2.5mm.

The screws are 3mm but I figure 2mm threaded into brass inserts is better than 3mm threaded into plastic. It should be plenty strong enough to keep the wheels together.

Sounds like a lot of effort for a wheel that can't even hold a bead.

The way I see it is there are two types of people, ones who build kits and ones who buy rtr's. That being said my last kit was a gmade r1 and to say I'm used to putting alot of effort into a complete piece of junk is a total understatement lol. If it works I'll slap some sand paddles or boggers on them and they will be my winter wheels (eyeballing rc4wd Raceland monster 2.2's for summer wheels) if it doesn't work out all well, I'm out $20 and an hour of time.

McMaster-Carr also has some 3mm non-flanged inserts (part #94510A030) that require a 4mm drill for installation. If you have enough plastic on the wheel you could keep the larger screw size. The 2mm and 2.5mm inserts have a flange on them that may interfere with the beadlock ring seating fully.

They also have some heat-set inserts that I think would work well, but I can't find the soldering iron or tip for installation and the 3mm require a 5.1 - 5.3mm tapered hole. The 2.5mm need a 3.2 - 4.04mm tapered hole.

I'm going to give the 2mm press fit ones with no flange a shot. I think 4mm pilot hole might be pushing it for the 3mm hardware.

I will email them tonight. I ordered the inserts and used this as an excuse to get the dremel drill press work station and tool-less bit chuck

I got the incerts today and I'm waiting on the screws but I had a short screw to test one out with so I pressed it into a piece of scrap wood. These things hold really good..Suprisingly good actually. The dremel drill press/work station however was an absolute piece of junk and is on its way back to where it came from. Exchanged it for a mini jewler/craft press, hopefully this thing is as nice as the reviews make it out to be.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Dremel drill press either. It'll work for some of the stuff I work with, but it's not for precision drilling/milling work.

Yeah, I drilled probably 8-9 holes with it and after seeing the bit wander out up to 1/8" and deflect as much as 1/4 inch in a 3/4" thick piece drilled "straight" through I packed it up and filed a return with Amazon.
