Default Motors? Decisions decisions

Hi guys, new to the crawler world. Just a newb when it comes to this stuff, I bought myself a PS Wraith about a month ago and noticed my stock motor isn't running right. It screeches and gets hot. I was wanting to get a new motor and preferably brushless in regards to the low maintenance (at least so i've heard). And before you say it, yes I've read through the sticky. Looking for something about the same speed as the stock. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Maybe a 13.5 brushless setup. A 17.5 would prolly be close to the 27t that axial offers. Might wait for others to chime in before making a decision.

What twistedmetal said is a good start, then go from there. I myself use the Novak ballistic 18.5, it's quite a bit slower than the 13.5 as mentioned above, more torque but I mainly crawl with mine. I'm also running 80/15 gears also so it's definitely not quick in any means. Depends mainly on how you drive your wraith, that will dictate which route to go as far as setup on motor and gearing. Goodluck and welcome to the forums.

Not to hijack the thread but I'm sure this will come up too. I would assume the mamba max is still a good speedo for these? How does the Tekin rs do? I like it because of it's size.

What would be the best bang for my buck in regards to a 13.5. Also would I need anything else or would it hook right into a stock Wraith and run just fine? Still new to all this stuff! Thanks for the inputs!

You would need a new speed control too and possibly some different pinion options. The stock wraith is a brushed speed control. I'm not up to date on all the new motors. I know I hear good things about the Tekin roc412. Not sure if that's close to a 13.5 or not.

I run a mmp with a trackstar sensored 17.5 turn 56/13 and top speed is about 21 on 3s I see no reason to spend that much on a motor. Just remember you will need steel Trans gears after a while and the r 40 compound tires will pop beads if you run axial plastic beadlocks

How has that trackstar done for you? I guess when I think about it, I will mostly be rock crawling and hill climbing. I want something affordable and reliable and pretty low maintenance. Definitely waterproof and very easy to drop in and hook up to the stock frame/electronics. Keep the inputs coming!

It's been great at that gearing it doesn't get hot and plenty of power. for waterproofing any sensored motor you need to liquid electric tape the sensor board and i think when i picked it up it was 20 bucks from hobbyking off there ebay store but you will need a new esc to run brushless anything!

Personally if you are going in water and such I would get a Holmes Crawlmaster Pro 13t.

What esc do you run with your crawlmaster? and how does the combo do on wheel speed?

I run the BR-XL Waterproof. It does pretty good. Comparable to a 27t axial holmes says.

If I'm not mistakened the crawlmaster pro 13t is a brushed motor. If so you can run it off the stock speed control.

I just realized that. :p I've read good things about the crawlmaster fr8cture, Im really leaning towards a brushless for the long life and low maintenance even if it means a new esc.

Yes its brushed. I don't see a reason to go brushless unless your going all out torque and wheel speed like a tekin 4 pole or the new holmes 4 pole when it comes out...

I agree. A good brushed motor can last a long time. Plus I believe it gives you better low speed crawl ability.

No motor I've used compared to the smoothness of a crawlmaster. Love it.
