Default 2wd-4wd

Can the trans be flipped and use the free wheel option of the dig to make the Wraith switchable from 2wd to 4wd ?

And the lock out for some power brake burnouts ?

Sure can, use that set-up in 2 of my builds. Though in the Wraith you'll most likely lose the ability to use the interior or have to cut it significantly.

The stock dig has freewheel and lock as options. Selectable with a 3position channel.

The only 3ch I have is the Traxxas and its not a 3 way rocker switch just a 2 way..
I take it I would need a 3rd channel with a 3 way switch ?

Way too little movement to do that. No way to control that on the tq radio. There is a way to mod that radio to a 3 position 3rd channel. Do some searching and I'm sure you can find info.

Or use a longer servo horn for more movement. Even I admit that might be a tough one to search for, and I just happen to know who posted it so, here How To: Convert a Traxxas TQ3 for 4ws

I did it a while ago with a RC4WD trans in a Tamiya Hi Lift and it was neat for a few minutes.

Well when running in a parking lot it would turn easy and on dirtroads spinning out...

Can you simply mod the dig for free wheel ?

I don't think you can unless you grind the teeth off the center gear.

Yeah. You could grind the teeth off the lockout side of the center gear. I would do it slowly as to not compromise the integrity of the gear.

Ok cool. Im looking up close up pics of the dig unit to see how hard it would be.
Thanks.

If you only want 2wd/4wd that's only 2pos which so the Traxxas rocker switch should be fine, no need to mod that.

You'll have to be careful using it for a dig servo however as the Traxxas radio has no end point adjustment for the 3/4/5 channels & you will more than likely burn out the servo your using for the dig 2wd/4wd control.
Traxxas make it work by using a spring loaded servo arm.

To me just reading the dig kit instructions, don't have one so I could be wrong, it looks like if you simple leave out part #AX30536-001 you'll have a drive disconnect rather than dig lock. You may need a small spacer to limit the slider dog from moving to far along the output shaft.

I grind the tangs off the locker portion - 5 minutes with a dremel wheel. I have nightmares about the front getting locked if the servo glitches or whatever while on power. Now it won't lock the dig at all.

For a 2 ch. radio, you can certainly do that, just mount the smallest servo arm you can find, and put the linkage as close to the spline as possible. Drill a new hole in the horn if you can. If you cannot limit the throw electronically, you'll have to do it mechanically. A 3 position switch mod would be perfect, you would need the 3rd position anymore, but the throw limit of about 30 degrees is just about perfect (if that makes sense)

Agreed.
On my SCX10 I flipped the tranny/dig. The rear end is too light so it just hopped and skipped over the place in RWD, but with the front locked you could do some nice donuts and brake stands. With that being said, I've flipped mine back to normal.
