Default Father and son wraith spawn's

Started years ago with an scx10 when my son was first born and crawled by myself at gtg's for awhile then got him an ax10 when he was about 3 but he only enjoyed it so much. Then I started my real 1:1 Baja race team and the rc's sat by on the side. Fast forward to this past Christmas and my now 7yr old son want's a crawler so I got him the spawn rtr since it had better gears and a few other better parts.

Since he is starting with the rtr his will be a slow build replacing parts as stuff breaks or when he gets a good report from school.

Mine will be a pretty much full kill build since I will start with just a chassis and body.

the day after Christmas cheaped out on a junkyard build so we could crawl together while I decided what to buy. I love being 15 minutes from corona del mar.

Good for you guys, I just recently got back into the hobby in a big way too!

My son is only 2 but he LOVES it! I let him play with my RC18B which he refers to as "Baby Car", and I will be setting up a Traxxas Bandit for him to play with also.

Every single morning he wakes up, the first words out of his mouth are "Drive trucks! Drive trucks!"

I think I've created a monster!

Have fun and enjoy the father son time!

Then I cam across this chassis on ebay with the body, interior, and electronics box all included for a steal so I bought it and then the nonsense started. Lots and Lots of parts from ckrc crawlers since my local hobby shops either closed or downsized their crawler parts sections.

That is what it's all about. Better to create a rc car monster than a lazy video game monster haha. keep him driving and in no time he will be a pro. Its great after I get off work to just bash some trucks in the front yard. We just did the KOH G6 together and it was the best freakin time ever.

The crawler lot!!! lol

First mod for the wraith's was to get the batteries up front so a couple (BPC Custom Chassis )battery forward plates. They are freaking awesome!!!!! super strong design. While I was moving the batteries up front I figured I would get the esc up there too so I don't have to do any modifications to the wire lengths for the battery connection for the time being.

I know a lot of people have been wondering what to do to the spawn body for the hood.

I cut it like my real 1:1 prerunner's front one piece fiberglass clips. As you can see I started my cut leaving a small amount of the fender curve on the body and the rest on the hood just like a real fiberglass race clip. On 1:1 their called mini fenders the part that you attach to the body to complete the body lines and the clip is the main fiberglass piece.

Body lines match up pretty well but In the prerunner world the fiberglass companies aren't %100 perfect either so I have learned to live with it.

for my rig I got the VP scale chub and knucles. I also picked up the vvd's, clamping hexes and slw hub's (600)

And they are ready to roll!!!!!! King of Hammers G6 will be our first big run together with the matching spawns!!

Mine is the one with Green Methods and My son is rockin the black methods. The rim colors are the only way to tell the difference between the two at a quick glance

Awesome that both you & your son run together. The green methods look sweet.

Thanks. Its not easy. I think you have to start on the passenger side and get the angle cut and the little curve near the window. but then you need to transition to the drivers side to cut the fender and then cut along the window to connect across. My wraith I cut from one side to the other without going back and forth a lil at a time and It just doesn't look as clean as my sons where I went a lil slower and went back and forth a lil at a time.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO PUT HINGES ON IT WITH THE WINDOW IT WON'T FIT THE BODY LINES AS WELL. JUST USE 4 HOOD PINS. GO ONLINE AND LOOK AT GOOGLE IMAGES OF PRERUNNERS WITH FIBERGLASS CLIPS AND THEY ALL USE 4 HOOD PINS. SHIT ON MY PRERUNNERS I USE THESE FANCY FLUSH MOUNT HOOD PINS AND I RUN 5 PINS 3 UP FRONT AND 2 IN THE BACK ALONG WITH THE 2 CLIPS THAT HOLD THE MINI FENDERS TO THE CLIP SO ON MY TRUCK THERE IS 7 HOOD PINS/CLIPS

This was when I had the 3 piece front on my truck but look 4 freakin hood pins to hold the hood and look at the fiberglass bedsides there is about 10 lil body fasteners if you look closely. Everybody thinks that making the body on our crawlers look like its being held to the body by magic isn't always scale. it works better on the SCX10 but for wraith they are more like race rigs anyways so body pins are pretty scale looking if you use small ones.

this is the new one piece clip that's going on my truck. But technically its still 3 pieces they just make the full size fenders mini fenders and move the body line back a lil. But if you look at my real clip you can get an idea of how a real truck is done and you can copy it to your wraith or use the pics of how I did my wraith.

King of the Hammers G6 event was the best Freaking time I have had in a while. Went out on Friday since I am a 1:1 offroad nut and watched some of the real king of hammers and then camped out in the explorer and got to the event first thing in the morning. I didn't get his hood pins in the mail in time for the comp so I went without a hood too so he didn't feel left out.

Since he is a lil guy I had to flip him over a few times and pull him up a couple of the really technical stuff but actually by the end of the day he beat me when I burned up a motor and during the motor swap time he got like 25 gates ahead of me. First race and the youngster is walking circles around the old man. ahahahaha

Also now the thread is pretty much cought up on where we are currently.

corona del mar rain trip. Rigs ran great had a blast. The lil man was running his rig hard jumping it off huge ledges and not one problem. his rig mechanically is pretty much stock.

Very awesome builds, I love seeing stuff like this!

Now that you're both hooked, what's next? More mods?
