Congrats on your purchase! Some low cost big return suggestions. Pick up 32 pitch instead of the 48 pitch as you are buying anyway. Much stronger. Plastic is fine. 56 spur/12 pinion will give you the same 4.66:1 ratio as with the 84/18 but stronger. I run 5.60:1 with basically a 30t motor. I haven't run the FXR or motor. Considering you haven't bought it yet, read about the Holmes Hobby BRXL and his motors. He makes awesome products. The BRXL has great adjustment and an awesome drag brake. Run it on 3s with batt up front. It will give it the speed when you need it. Order some CI (Crawler Innovations) foams for those tires. The stock foams are way to soft. They fold to much on a side hill. I run DD 5.5 comp cut with med outers. Great bite! I added beef tubes in the front housing for c-hub attachment and low non-rotating weight. I think these are a great investment. I'm still running all plastic front. Don't go crazy right off the bat. Figure out what you want to improve and go from there. When I built mine I also added Axial machined metal gears for tranny and HD ring and pinion front and rear with underdrive in the rear. I didn't want to take it apart later and it seems that the tranny idler gear is a weak part. Add a piece of hard wood dowel into the male part of the drive shaft to keep it from twisting. Cheap fix. Enjoy the build! John |

Disclaimer: I am no expert, but just finished two Wraith kits If you are going to run 3s I would upgrade the transmission to all steel gears. If you are going brushed then I would go with a 13t HH crawlmaster for more of a crawler or a 27t HH torquemster expert for more of a trail rig. The HH BRXL is already waterproof and programmable via castle link. I would definitely switch to 32 pitch gears and start with 5.5:1 gearing and monitor motor temps. 56/10 is a good starting point. If you plan on running the stock 38/13 bevel gears front and rear I would shim the rear input shaft at the very least. They are hard to find but under gearing the rear to 43/13 heavy duty gears are a good investment. The kit comes with the old style driveshafts. If you are running 3s the best thing to do is just make two 4 female ends from the kit and use a male section with axial part# AX30516 pressed in the center of the male section(one of those will be enough for two driveshafts, just cut it in half). VP or Blue Monkey ti steering linkage is a must. Also, the stock receiver box is not waterproof. You can either install one from a Spawn or plasti-dip the stock one. The slipper clutch is also the older style so if you are running brushless you will need to run it pretty tight. One last recommendation: Check out the build kit videos by teamfasteddy. Some of the part numbers in the kit directions are wrong. And some of the diagrams are a little confusing. If I had to do it over again I would have gone brushless from the start but brushed is fine too. Another thing I wish I would have done is soak the bearings in corrosion x and applied a healthy amount of marine grease inside the axle housings. Have fun building! I'm assuming you're building this for crawling? I've no experience with that motor / esc combo. I do agree with John tho, go with 32 pitch gears instead of the factory 48 pitch gears. Much stronger. Try and aim for a 5:1 ratio to prevent motor overheating. The BRXL is a really good ESC, and you can combine it with the motor of your choice. Instead of the Savox SW-1210SG, I suggest the Savox SV-1272SG. Much more torque output at the same price. It's also waterproof like your first choice. The factory differential gears will get you by for quite awhile, you don't have to worry about upgrading those until you start running more power. Axial does make a heavy duty gear set in different ratios when you're ready. Putting the suggested 43/14 gearset in the rear would underdrive the rear axle, letting it spin slower than the front. The purpose of this is to increase the front tire spin for sharper turning and better hill climbing. It's not required. Don't worry about the suggested Chassis Mounted Servo. It's for a scale apperance, keeping the servo mounted to the axle is less troublesome. |

Might I suggest a Savox 1231sg servo, more torque at 6.0v and $25 cheaper.

| Re: 1st time kit build LOL, actually its only about 50$ more than it was. Also I had sold some stuff from one of my other hobbies to mitigate the costs and keep the wife from killing me in my sleep with and RC.

You can save $40.00 if you get the radio with the 410 receiver instead of the 4210. I don't know how valuable the AVC feature is, but when that crap kicks in on my 1:1 FJ cruiser, it freaks me out worse than skidding or wheel squeel!

For me, building and modifying is more fun than driving them. Probably why none of mine run lol, have fun!

I've been a model builder for years, how I didn't know this hobby for so long makes me sad for the builds that could have been. Well time to make up for lost time |

| Re: 1st time kit build Funny, I got into Rc as a child. I was hit by a car, and had to spend some time in the hospital. I built a bunch of models, and my grandfather picked me up an RC to build at the hobby shop thinking it would take longer for me to build and I could also play with it when I was done lol
