Lightbulb Free broken cage fix!

So the cage on my wraith cracked in two places on the upper cage. I had been taping it together, and today I came up with a great Idea for a decent fix.

I drilled each hole a little bit bigger, then I took the stock driveshaft pin and tapped it into one side, the just pushed it into the other side. Solid fix that was free. Figured I'd share for other people with broken cage parts!

I broke mine in the same exact spot. I simply got some super glue, gorilla brand, and glued it back together.

Still trying to figure out a way to fix stripped out plastic holes.

To fix mildly stripped holes, a drop of CA glue usually works for me.

You can also but a piece of metal piping over the break to re-enforce the broken area

Plastic weld it! Get an old soldering iron and use that to "weld the parts back together. if you have to add a bit of plastic back to it which is always good to do then use a peice of a parts tree that comes with the kits or the RTR's. Easy to do with a little bit of practice. A little bit of sandpaper and everything looks great again.

Also if you learn to do it you can repair the plastic sides to radiators.

I 'repaired' my factory radiator by simply buying one that didn't have plastic end tanks. Total waste of time to fix them. Unless you like fixing them repeatedly.

If you can remove the pin you have a trail fix with you at all times if you were to loose a driveshaft pin.

Use your pin technique and use adhesive shrink wrap to finish it off. Much better than tape if its split already. Done this a couple times with my Losi 5ive-T cage which takes tons of abuse.

Nice idea, but I've never seen a Wraith cage broken like that...what happened?

Just standard abuse! One side cracked a long time ago, and the other side recently. It was becoming a pain to hold it by the cage, so something had to be done

DEVCON home epoxy 5minute epoxy. Two part mix 50/50 drip it in the hole till its full. Let it harden overnight then drill it with a small bit and then thread a new course thread screw into it and done. This can be done over and over again and the epoxy is really strong stuff when mixed properly.

I was actually thinking about trying this. I will be picking up some epoxy tomorrow, in fact, to try just this. Thanks. :3

FWIW, I broke my cage in the same spot by, um... falling a good 25-30 feet. It wasn't jumped, it actually fell off a boulder. Onto another boulder.

When I'm up in that area, I avoid the boulders now... lol If I had better tires, better wheels, and wheel weights in the fronts, I would have been fine.

Same happened to me. Just took an aluminum siding nail and cut both ends off to make a shank and drilled it out Tapped it in and good to go.

Those freekin high spots are fun and tempting, you just to pull it off or pay the price, all part of the fun for RCCrawling.

Haha yep! The problem was actually getting the rig back... I had to crawl down into a crevice to grab it. And once I was down in there, I realized I could actually drive it out...

I wonder... If I filled the male side of the stock driveshafts with epoxy, would it make them stronger? I guess I'm about to find out.
