Default Stock ESC vs LiPo batteries?

The LHS has... Small LiPo packs, 1c and 2c, as well as a 3c and such.

So I asked the dude behind the counter if I could drop a LiPo in my Wraith without changing out the ESC, and he said 'no, you have to swap ESC'.

That lead me to wander around the forums here, looking at stickies and searching, and I see some people using the stock ESC with LiPo. Since it's not in the sticky, is it possible to use the stock ESC with a LiPo without burning it up?

I love my NiMH battery, it lasts forever, but it's a bit heavy, as well as big. I'd much rather slip a LiPo in under the trunk where the electronics are mounted up stock, but LiPo requires investment (battery, charger, wiring).

Other thing in consideration is the motor. I'm using a intergy 35t brushed motor with stock 4:1 gearing (32p 56t spur and a 13t gear). I can change the gearing really easy, the LHS has 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15t gears available and swapping them out is easy.

AE-2. Glad I have it mounted in a spot that makes it easy to access.

I would have to guess the guy who you spoke to is either clueless or a wanted to make a bigger sale. The ae2 will handle lipo just fine up to 3s with auto sensing low voltage detection.

You hobby shop guy is a dumb ass.

2 cell Lipo's are fine as long as it is in lipo mode so it has the low voltage cut off.
And 3s with an external bec.

Oh, sweet, thanks for the link.

That looks easy enough. I may have to invest in a Castle Link some time in the future (hah right after a Tactrix cable for my car).

I would, except... It's not even a hobby store. It's a bicycle, scale train, and hobby store. It's actually really small. 2/3 of the store is for bicycles, and of the remaining space, only 1/4 of it is for RC cars and parts. They can't get aluminum wheels, and aluminum/titanium suspension/chassis parts are special order only.

I think I'll be going with online orders from now on...

Bingo.

Going to get some Vanquish parts first, though.
