rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith - Trainwreck Here goes nothing... http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...psme5u7dfz.jpg Got to step 4 in the manual... before bolting on my new 15° link mounts. http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...psifmyuakx.jpg http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...pssuadpvd7.jpg This is as far as I'm building right now. Got to figure out where to start cutting... http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...psuw60eni7.jpg PS. A hand full of link mounts should be available soon... PM me for more info. |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Kit's looking good so far. "thumbsup" I'd be interested in seeing how those hold up to abuse with only one ear to hold the links. Never broke a stock plastic one, but I would think if you could machine them so there's an ear on each side and retail the angle they'd be bullet proof, and add a little support to rod ends. The ball ends wouldn't get rocked side to side so much, and might prevent them from wallowing out. |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith He's back! You should change the title to "Cranking it up to Eleven!". |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Yes! This can hopefully mean a much need product is coming. |

Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith If these link mounts fail, you have bigger problems... |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Can you mount the links and shocks on the inside of this mount? For a bit more steering clearance... And any plans to make a wraith skid? That scx one is like art with a purpose! Maybe with multiple link mounting points... |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith I don't think there is room on the diff side. Yes, a skid will be looked at. |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Looking forward to this build "thumbsup"Those link mounts would be a great addition to my U4 Wraith. |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Got a building fixture waterjet today from some 12ga 304 #4 stainless. It features a position, height and angle adjustable skid pedestal. Now I can actually start figuring some stuff out... http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps6qnagc9f.jpg http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...psrxcwdnxb.jpg |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith That's a super way to set up a nice rig. Looking forward to seeing progress on this and possibly a trick wraith skid come out of it. Wes |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Thanks guys! Tonight on SMW chop shop... Trimmed most of the fat http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...pst86cthl3.jpg Threw on the only trailing arms I had. TH rears as fronts (per suggestion) and my .625" extended TH rears which will not work but it's somewhere to start. Obviously needs new uppers as well. http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...psgt9m4099.jpg The stand sucks. I have some ideas there too. Lol |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Dang man! you went full chop on that thing! |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith That didn't take long! |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Haha. I'm pretty good a cutting stuff up. |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Modify the trailing arms so the upper links are eliminated. They'd have to be stout to take the abuse, and would function as a ladder bar setup. And if you do, I'll take a set! |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith cool chassis jig! |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Thanks guys. If you really want link mounts PM me to get on the list, I have another batch going right now... |
Re: rob_b's SMW U4 Axial Wraith Started my first work project in Inventor 2016 today. Amazing how much better looking the working environment gets every year. Anyways here is a quick screen shot, not a rendering, of some front shock arms that mount into the lower windshield bars. Just a first draft really... http://i596.photobucket.com/albums/t...pstf8ilzkl.jpg |
