Default spawn overheating 55t rc4wd can 11t 32p pinion 56T spurr

So I put some 2.2 swampers on the other day... there a little taller than the stock ripsaws. And I burned the stock 20T motor up. Replaced it with a 55t motor from rc4wd and that's still getting hot. I had a stock 12t pinion on there that I swapped our with an 11 now with a little bigger spur. Is 1 tooth enough to keep the motor cool? Is it a cheapo motor? I'm lost as to why I'm still overheating someone please help!!

Im running 56/11 32p with the RC4WD 35 turn on 2s. No heat issues at all. Maybe gear mesh is too tight? Are you on 2s or 3s?
Regardless, at less than $10, I think its safe to say its a "cheapo" motor.

Maybe a binding issue? Are they new wheels as well? Maybe they are binding against the hubs/axles? Just a thought

I'm running a 2s 7500mah and the stock methods that came with the spawn. the mesh might be a little tight. I was reading about a paper trick inbetween the gears. I will try tomorrow. Other than that no obvious binding issues. That I can tell, I'm somewhat of a noob to the wraith world but have been building jeeps for awhile and have a great understanding of how things work. I'll try and loosen up the gear mesh when I wake up tomorrow.

Do you guys think the lipo battery makes them run hotter? I got the battery and tires at the same time. So it could be either

I just went and double checked my spur gear.. it's a 64T paired to a 11t pinion. Is that 5.8:1 gearing? Seems plenty low To me... why am I getting so hot? Could it just be runtime oN The cheapo motor? Should I try and switch back to an axial motor? A guy told me they have fans inside them unlike the rc4wd motors

Im thinking you're getting some friction or binding somewhere because your gear ratio is looooow.

My pinion/spur mesh was really tight. I had to drill the motor mount to slide it over more, but I think it helped alot I havnt had a chance to really heat it up yet though

Ya, with 32p gears, you need some wiggle play. If you want to do paper, get a standard piece and fold it over, so its twice as thick. Once you figure it out, you don`t need tricks, you just listen and feel it. You can also listen to it whine like a stuck pig if its to tight, do the mesh out of the truck, on a table. When you think you got it, hook up the batt on the table, and give it a little throttle, you can usually hear the high pitch pretty quickly.

This is one of the reasons i went brushless. Or get a holmes hand wound motor, they make more torque then standard machine wound.

Thanks for the help guys, yea I did it out of the truck and spu. It with my fingers to make shure the tranny wasn't binding. All seems good. I'm off tomorrow I'm gunna go to a local hiking trail and test it out!

What do you guys think about a 20t and that gearing? The 55t is too slow and I don't want to drop the money on a holmes if something is burning up my motors

That is a bad idea if your already overheating it with a 55t motor.

20t makes it 3.2:1 which will not be the ratio to keep cool...like already stated, its a bad idea..

I was referring to a 20 turn motor. I feel the heat issue has resolved after I loosened up the pinion mesh. I went crawling for about an hour and a half. No smoke. The motor was a little warm but not near what it was before.. and that was after alot of slow difficult crawling. Theese lipo kick ass. I'm really happy with the battery life and it's even better that I don't have to let my motor cool down all the time lol

Hers a little peek at what I'm workin on.

My ride..

An update for you guys... I ended up finding a little bit of rust on my metal tranny gears. Wd40'D em wire brushed the rust off sprayed out any debris in the bearings and reassembled with grease this time and she rolls much easier now. Also ended up with an 8 tooth pinion 64 tooth spur she runs like a champ at that gearing
