How well does the balloon method work for the electronics? I put them in the balloon zip tied it at end closed to receiver then put some dielectric grease in there and twiteste a little and zip tied and did another round of grease and zip tied it off. I put grease in the servo, and thats about it. THink it should be good for some creek crawling? |

As long as you take the axles and transmission apart and clean and dry and regrease. Every time I go creeking there is a little moisture in any case/housing and that destroys the bearings/steel parts pretty fast. You can pack the axles with grease...but I even so I find moisture after submersion. Servo should be opened up and the PCB sealed. I've used nail polish, epoxy, CA glue for that with success. No dielectric in the gears! Outside on the shaft. Then I paint over any seams on the outside same as the PCB.

I followed this guide Axial Racing - How to Waterproof your SCX10 I didnt glob a bunch of the dielectric on the gears just what it looks like on that guide. Then im going to seal like you said with the nail polish etc. It quite on me while driving through some puddles but started working again. It looked like some dirty water got into the bullet connectors for the motor. Shrink tubing you think should fix that? |

Dielectric grease is meant exactly for plugs and other connections to keep them from corroding. Water in a lead should not make the motor stop. Heatsrhink would be a great way to keep the connectio9ns insulated and held together. Grease would stop the water.

YOu ever seen or heard anyone using the liquid bandaid or new skin stuff around the outside of the servo and esc? Its a water proof coating what you think?

Sounds reasonable as long as it sticks to plastic. I have sprayed servos with Plastidip and it holds up well.

Conformal coating is my weapon of choice. Its clear so you can cover LEDs on your PCB . Thin so it gets into cracks. Cheap and super effective. I've got a how to series on it on my YouTube channel. I use it for all my water proofing. If I need some epoxy type work done, I use goop / shoe goo. I've had plastic dip fail too many times, even when applied under the best of circumstances. The spray is a little better. |

Recently I saw that for servos a well known rc'er (squirrelod) on youtube was only sealing up the case and not touching the top shaft, so not actually disassembling anything. For receivers, using extensions and plastidipping is my preferred method. I have used balloons, works great as long as they're out of the water. No way I would trust a water balloon with submersion only splashes |
