~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...psx7oyljch.jpg These new chassis rails will change the face of class 2 forever! Full length chassis rails for the Axial Wraith Cage making it SORCCA Class 2 legal. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ps9bkob0xm.jpg Requires Axial Ridgecrest/AX10 skid #AX80118 FOR ADVANCED BUILDERS ONLY! Requires precise bending and custom links to complete. Bend locations come marked on chassis. Also requires miscellaneous hardware and custom build parts and know how. http://thescaleshop.webs.com/WRX10%202%20CAGE%20700.jpg Whats included: 2x flat chassis rails, 4x M3 screws, and 4x spacers. http://thescaleshop.webs.com/wrx10%2...logo%20700.jpg first you need to start with a striped down Wraith cage. Remove the Wraith skid. Drill out the center two skid holes in the tube with a 1/8" drill bit. http://lcdn.dollarhobbyz.com/media/c..._roll_cage.jpg the chassis rails come with marked ridges showing exactly where to bend the front of the rails. From left to right we will call these bent points #1, 2 and 3. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...psanmojkaa.jpg Bends #2 and 3 need to be done first. They will be approximately 40 degrees and closely mimic the Wraith tube next to it. You MUST insure each bend is straight! Or you will end up with a pretzel. I used a piece of sheet metal to insure the rails were in the vise straight for each bend. Did this everytime i put it in the vise. BEND VERY SLOWLY and 1-2 degrees at a time. If you bend too agressively or go past the angle needed and try to bend back the aluminum will snap. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...psvr2jkh4j.jpg i spend a good hour doing bends #2 and 3 on both rails. Take your time doing a little bit at a time test fitting in wraith cage each time. bends should be equal but opposite. front rail in front of 2 bends, and rear rail after bends should be parrallel. http://thescaleshop.webs.com/WRX10%2...ENDS%20700.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...pswrhzvwb1.jpg |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Once happy with bends (or to give a better fitment test) take your rails, Ridgecrest skid, supplied screws and spacers, and bolt up your rails to the center of wraith cage. http://thescaleshop.webs.com/WRX10%2...INKS%20700.jpg next bolt up front of rails if fitment is good, or tweak bends until they do. Now here is where you have a choice. If you dont plan to compete in a SORRCA event you can simply cut off the front of the rails that are in front of the two front bolt holes behind the shocks. However, if you plan to do SORRCA comps this little bit of chassis rail up front is required to meet the 3" rule for chassis rail length. At bend point #1 bend the rails outward to clear steering servo. i beveled the ends of the rails to allow more angle and clearance. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...pssawb9ysu.jpg |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 rear doesnt require any bends. Rails slightly arc and mount to rear sway bar mount points. Bolt using M2/2-56 hardware not included. http://thescaleshop.webs.com/WRX10%2...OCKS%20700.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...psv0by8byb.jpg |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Works awesome. This was the super secret chassis I ran in my Wraith at Disney. "thumbsup" |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Vary nice. Fitment looks spot on. Those rear mounts double as a swaybar mount too? |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Looks good! |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 1 Attachment(s) Great idea Quote:
Could that rear mount be doubled up to put the sway bar mount slightly in front of stock? (crude MSpaint edit for visual clarity) |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Anyway to add in a few more holes for upper link adjustments? |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 That's a slick little piece Corey, I like the though there! 8) |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Thanks Josh |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Are you not shipping pre shaped due to damage of the bends in transit caused by USPS? |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 no due to increased costs. |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 I would love a set of these if they were pre bent. I'm sure people wouldn't mind spending a fee extra dollars for it! Nice rails either way. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Will an axle mounted servo clear the frame rails ? |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 yes it should, the rails are at the same level as the lower tube of the cage. |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Any pics of this rig done ? Or as a roller ? |

Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Not long ago I'd mentioned to Cory that I needed a rig that's more capable. Right now I've only got rigs in the Class Zero to Class 1 range. That's great and I love 'em, but I also want something that's more capable from time to time. And preferably something that's pretty tough so I don't have to worry about it. The problem is I'm wrapped up pretty heavily in other hobbies right now so I don't really have the time to do something totally custom. After giving it a lot of thought, a 1.9 Wraith really seemed to fit the bill perfectly! The only issue is that I was hoping to have this rig be legal for Class 2, but as we all know the Wraith chassis goes to Class 3 because of the lack of conventional frame rails. So I contacted Cory to get a set of frame rails to make my Wraith C2 legal. After a little discussion we worked out a deal and I'm now the proud owner of a Wraith cage, TSS frame rails, and some other tidbits. I had a set of SCX axles that were fully built with all the good stuff. But SSD has recently released their super scale looking SCX axle housings. So that was one of my first additions. There's currently an STRC CMS mount for the Hitec 7950 servo (486 oz.!) and some Gearhead shock mounts and an electronics tray up front. For the time being, I've sourced some stock SCX shocks to do the suspending and I finally had time to play around with all the links to set the wheelbase. I'll likely be building some custom lowers, but we'll see. I may try the smaller links first to see how they hold up. So last night I got it into roller status. Biggest issue I see so far is the servo mount. It's a bit too far forward for the new axle location. I was able to make it work, but the drag link and track bar are both angled back pretty significantly. No bumpsteer, though, so it's possible it'll remain as is. It'll be getting more caster, too. https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4155-XL.jpg https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4158-XL.jpg https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4156-XL.jpg Here's the bottom side showing the (likely temporary) links. It also gives a good shot of the TSS frame rails! https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4160-XL.jpg https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4153-XL.jpg And here's how it sits right now. Obviously, it's WAY too tall, but that'll change. https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4151-XL.jpg This is more of the ride height I'm shooting for... https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_4162-XL.jpg More updates over the next couple weeks. :) |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 I should also mention that those Gearhead shock mounts are actually mounted upside down to provide a reduced ride height. And another useless bit off trivia.... I bought those Pit Bull Rockers back when they first came out....in '11, I think? I ran them just one time on my old "Boring Toyota" so they're still practically brand new. They're my favorite tires and I've been dying to build a rig that could finally run them! Pretty stoked about finally making it happen! https://tommyr.smugmug.com/Hobby-Stu...MG_2902-XL.jpg |
Re: ~TSS~ WRX10 Chassis Rail Build: Class 2 Legal 1.9 Well I pulled the trigger. My WRX10 rails are on their way. |
