Yes, use a bec...always...lol...I have a hitec 7954tg and like it alot, plenty of power... my son has a solar d772 servo on his ps wraith...we've had it in a bunch of different rigs for almost 2 years now...and it's sill going strong..the price is pretty good also... when I got mine it was around $18.99, I think they have gone up a little, but not much.. I think you can sill get them for around $23-25..

I really like my Savox 1230SG with a Novak BEC, Can't beat 500 oz. in. for under 80.00. Woot! Best bang for the buck I think, I have them in all my scale and crawler rigs.

I just pulled the stock Tactic TSX45 outta my "new" Wraith Spawn. It lasted all but 4-5 runs?! So needless to say I'm in the same boat as apparently a lotta new Wraith owners are in. I will be following this thread like a hawk in order to decide on what servo is best to buy next! My reading here tells me either Hi-Tech or Savox. Sorry not trying to pirate your thread, just looking for the same answers. Cheers!

Currently I'm running the homes hobby servo which is super badass and a great price!! I have also run high-tech servos in the past with little to no issue any issue I'd send it back to high-tech and then send me another one but for the price the HH servo takes the cake!!

I run Holmes servo @ 7.6v on 3s. It is powerful. I like savox as well. I run heyok bec, plug and play, easy.

1230sg likes to split cases, $10 at a time adds up. Went up to the 1283 with the aluminum gave and problem solved. I'm hard on stuff though, so maybe it's just me

Same happened to me. So I replaced it with a Holmes HV400 and it lasted me about 2 months before I had to send it back in so sold it and went woth my Protek 170T which has been doing great for me. Alot of torque and speed. Savox are not known for being very good. Glitchy, power hungry and loud.

Just bought the Protek 170T and a Castle BEC. When installing the BEC is there any soldering involved?

Yes, you have to solder the power and ground from the bec to the power and ground on your ESC.

Get the Holmes rx bypass for a clean install then you only need to solder to your batt3ry leads on the esc.

+1 Absolutely! The bypass also frees up a slot on the receiver and you don't have to pull the little red wire on the ESC lead.

You can't beat the solar d772 for the price, I run them in all my rigs and haven't had any issues. Had them in there for over a year.

Sorry to jump in but I feel my question is relevant.

Do I need to run a BEC when running 2S only?
