Ive had good luck with the T-maxx aluminum big bore shocks. They dont leak and are pretty smooth for Traxxas shocks. I believe they come in a set of 8 so if you can find a friend that wants some you can split the cost.

Can't go wrong with ProLine PowerStrokes.

I like the Slash fronts for a lower CG; other prefer Slash rears for a stock ride height. All up to personal preference.

I use Traxxas Big Bores on all my rigs he's right they don't leak saving extra work topping off shocks and they work really well and are a good value. RPM makes inexpensive shock valving kit that works well with the Big Bores having that adjustment is valuable IMO. I haven't tried the Proline shocks the they must be good everyone seems to have them. At this time I'm more interested in the Kyosho red top shocks sold by Super Shafty they are spendy but without question the smoothest most effective shocks available at this time. Typically you get what you pay for.

I have a set of stock Losi Ten SCTE shocks that are new. Can I put these on or do I need a set of say 4 fronts or 4 rears. In other words, on a Pro4 truck there are front and rear shocks (diff. sizes), to me it looks as if my stock shocks on the Wraith are all the same size?

+1 for ProLines. I've got the powerstroke rears all around and love them. With the spring tuning pack, you can get them really dialed in for your rig.

I have integy aluminum shocks without the fake reservoirs. I like them better than the HPI rally car shocks I had before.

Pro-lines

Traxxas big bores are pretty decent also.

The Wraith comes with adjustable shock valves in the box (same as the RPM kit), except Axial got it arse about in the Wraith instruction manual, the picture for slower compression is actually slower rebound, and visa-versa. I've used these with the Traxxas shock diaphragm (they seem to seat better). I've slightly enlarged some of the holes in those (not all) to change the flow rates and played with different weight oils. It has so much more traction climbing rocks now as I went softer in compression and stiffer in rebound which allows the wheel to absorb the step up, but not react with a harsh rebound so the wheel has less tendency to unload and loose traction, just like a 1:1 shock I'm also using the Yeti shaft, housing and springs to get a longer shock but raised the top mounting points.

If you are looking for a smaller more scale shock the vaterra ascender aluminum shocks have been great for me.

How about slash rears with a droop kit? Still lower CG, any benefits to a longer shock?

More stroke/travel for more articulation and more mid stroke control. That's why you see rigs with crazy long coilovers and the upper mount is near the roof. The more mid stroke you have in a shock the better control you have while in that mid stroke. When a shock gets to the very top or very bottom of it's travel it starts to lose effectiveness to a certain extent then it just stops.

That's more or less what I was thinking but then seen people suggesting the shorter ones so I wasn't sure, I guess its just personal preference.

Well while going through a miss placed spare parts box I found 4 Integy Piggy back shocks. They haven't leaked since I put them together about 6 months ago. They give me a little more travel then the stock ones and they seem pretty smooth in the travel.....

Will hopefully be getting out very soon to give them a run....
