Default My New Spawn

So I got rid of my SCX10 to try something new. I went with the RTR Spawn based on some reviews I read on the forum. Did some mods before running it, suggestions off the forum. Moved battery to front with some sheet metal, flipped upper shock mounting bracket to lower rear, RC4WD extended Rock Crawler links front and back (had to get creative with front bumper as it no longer clears the servo), front steering linkage to Integy steel. Also modified an SCX10 Jeep body to the wraith X 2, no work of art. Here's a link to some pix.

So here's my question, I got some gearing advice, but need more. So the Spawn has the 32 pitch gears, 56 Spur and 12 Pinion I believe is stock. What do I need to make it more of a crawler? I instantly missed my SCX10, also a RTR. Stock parts don't bother me, I'm just a weekend warrior looking to have fun on the cheap. Can I just lower the pinion? Up the spur? If I need a new motor, a $30 and under would be my choice. I want to be able to run slow and not burn up the ESC. Can this be done? I understand the Wraith is a rock racer, but I figured it could be made into a wide axel crawler/trail rig.

Thanks in advance!

Could go down to a 10 or 11 pinion or maybe up to a 58 spur, much bigger in 32P hits the front trans output I think.
It's a whisker over the $30 but if your changing out the motor I think your looking for something like Holmes TorqueMaster Sport in a 27 or 30T, will have more torque than the stock 20T, will drop that wheel speed down & is serviceable.

64t will clear a wraith length MIP. Probably won't clear the axial one.

I will try a lower pinion first and then invest in a new motor if it's still not what I want. Thanks

Another question? Do I want the crawl master sport 13t or the torque master sport 27T? Both $35 bucks or so. What's the difference?

Yes, I had the crawlmaster 13t and 10 tooth pinion with 56 tooth spur in my spawn and it will definitely slow it down while adding torque. Even with this gearing the motor still runs hot so keep an eye on temps. I added one of those piggyback castle creations fans and it seemed to help a lot. The fan was only 11 bucks at the LHS. On 2s, she ran really well. I now run this exact setup in my new SCX10 because I went brushless in my spawn.

Screamer, I hear you on the Hotness factor - I run the same setup, and I too find that the motor gets pretty screaming - barely "one-onethousand" on the ol' touch thermometer. With the fan setup, have you noticed any effect to run time (assuming your running off our main pack)? Anyone trying motor heat sink?

No effect on runtime that I've seen. All my packs are 5000mah or higher so I usually stop before the battery runs out. My driving style or terrain of the day have more affect on my run times.

56/10 setup on the crawlmaster expert 13t........almost caught fire, melted the stickers and no hope to rebuild. I tried so many things to prevent heat issues and the only thing I could do to keep from smoking. Could pull a house and was smooth but worthless on fire.
