| AR60 truss?
Do the aftermarket aluminum ar60 axle housings need a truss for structural/strength purposes, or just to mount the links and /or servo? Ive never liked the truss look, so if I build an SSD or VP front axle without the bulky truss, do I risk snapping a tube on the long side?

It's stronger than stock plastic, yes. Does an aluminum axle NEED a truss? No, but neither does the stock plastic AR60 if you drive easy. You can break anything so it's up to you how you drive and how bulletproof you need your rig to be. A lot of the centered pumpkin axles have minimal truss bracing so that might give you an idea of their strength. Of course they also don't have a long and short side, but equal stress put on 2 equal length sides. HTH

Truss on both the VP & SSD front axles mounts the upper links, if you remove it both they & the servo need a mount.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I understand the mounting-purposes of the truss, but I will be using a 3-link cms setup and could relocate the upper link farther out on a tube. Im working on an ar60 axled scaler, low speed, and just thinking about cleaning up the front. If I didn't need the truss for link or servo duties, on a 6-8 lb rig in a g6 comp will I be okay? Guess there's only one way to find out |
