Default A poll for best aftermarket shocks.

Bought a RTR Wraith Spawn. Stock shocks leaked after day one. My question is: What aftermarket shocks have proven to be the best for yall as far as performance and NOT leaking? I'm new to crawlin'. Been racin' Pro4 Shortcourse trucks for a couple of years and understand and know how to set-up a 4X race truck, but really don't know ANYTHING when it comes to shocks, viscosities, springs etc.... when it comes to crawlers. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. BTW went to Axialfest and the Shortcourse truck is now gathering cobwebs! Awesome!!!!

I use proline powerstroke scaler shocks. And so do a lot of other people. Not going to say they are the best, but they have held up decent for me. Also I have use associated green slime to lubricate the o-rings which will help to stop leaks. Buy those then go beat the snot out of your truck

Pro-Line PowerStroke Scaler Shocks (90mm-95mm)

Associated Shock Lube,Green Slime

Cheers,
Wade

I vote ProLine Powerstroke rears for all four corners. This will give you close to stock ride height. If you want it lower, get scalers or Powerstroke fronts. I run 30wt oil front and rear.

I have Proline Powerstokes rears as well. I was not a fan of them on my short course truck, but seem to work well on my wraith. No leaks so far.

Vaterra Ascender Aluminum shock if you want a more scale shock. Mine haven't leaked at all and I've done some backflips with them and a 8lbs wraith. lol

Proline slash rears are 103mm iirc.

Edit: Btw I have PL rears on the front and fronts on the rear. Super soft springs and 25wt oil.

Traxxas Big Bore shocks for the T/E Maxx -- #4962. About $50 - $60 for eight. A really good deal if you have more than one truck or have a friend to split the costs.

What is it that makes the Traxxas shocks better than the stock Axial shocks specifically?

Non Specifically, they generally don't leak & they're cheap.
Specifically the alloy bodies, they are often smoother than plastic & they tend to distort less around the cartridge & cap hence the seals work better.
The Traxxas GTR shocks use an X ring like the Proline ProSpec (& some others) do, but the others just use double orings the same as stock Axial & about 90% of every other rc shock.
Seen on the Yeti page there seems to be success with changing the Icon shock seals to Traxxas, add the x ring in between the orings & use the traxxas bladder.

The other thing to remember is you have an RTR, the shocks probably got all of 60sec each spent on their assembly, if you pull them apart & re-build with a traxxas 2362 seal kit & some TA green slime & bleed them properly you can probably have a nice enough shock for a total investment of around $8

Out of curiosity where do yours leak, around the cap or through the shaft seals?

Traxxas big bore XXL 2662 with wraith kit springs and dlux standoffs I think is the best combo of value and performance
