Knock off. If it doesn't say Beef Tubes, it's not the real deal. BT's are steel, not aluminum.

Re: Beef tubes..

These are very well made, the guy selling these also makes them in brass...the are alot better made than the beeftubes...i had several sets of beeftubes and the threads in all of them were very sloppy...the custom crawl tubes are very nicely machined on a cnc setup and threads are tight and the holes are chamfered very nice as well..this allows for better thread start than ones with no chamfering at all...he also makes threaded holes for the upper link mount screw to go into thereby making it even stronger...

You buy a set of the brass ones or aluminum ones...if you don't like them, I will buy them from you..so you got nothing to lose...

Re: Beef tubes..

Saw a post on fb where someone had snapped an aluminum tube. Apparently it was not the first time they've done that...

Re: Beef tubes..

this guy complained about beef tubes having surface rust on them so he started making his own. :lmao:

i imagine anything can break, hell i bent my beeftubes twice but I went with the brass over the aluminum. none the less, i would like to see a picture of the snapped aluminum tube, and would like to know if it was a crawl tube brand...

Nothing wrong with it I just find his reason ridiculous.

Re: Beef tubes..

there was more to it than just the surface rust, it was the sloppy threads and the varying tolerances on the grooves for the link mount bolts...of all the sets of beeftubes I have, none of them are the same on the grooves where he link mount bolts go thru...so I switched all them out to his when they came out. I have seen these being made and it is a cool process...each one is exactly like the others in tolerances and fit and finish...I prefer the brass myself...

Re: Beef tubes..

How the hell do you bend a steel beef tube?

allanon1965 08-01-2015 12:18 AM

Re: Beef tubes..

they bent where the link bolts go thru the tubes, they are the weakest there....it was a couple of very bad tumbles...the plastic housing bent as well, but when I straightened out the beef tube, the housing followed suit..

They actually are surprising easy to bend if hit the right way...you can see the screw is still fully seated in the notch, but the tube is bent...this was the ladt one that bent and I replaced it with the brass crawl tubes...

Re: Beef tubes..

That makes sense. I had the image of the solid AX style tubes locked in my head for some reason...

Re: Beef tubes..

nope, haven't bent any of the scx10 ones...that would be a really hard hit!

Re: Beef tubes..

The link bolts are the weak point on the housing to begin with. Every housing I've broken was at those bolts. There's only so much room there, not much you can do without making the OD bigger.

Re: Beef tubes..

I agree, however, the beeftubes have more material removed than needed, and the brass crawl tubes are slightly thicker to boot...you have to grind down a bit more of the flange on the axle but not much more. The link mount grooves are much thinner and leave lot more material at that weak point...not perfect by no means but I want as much material there as I can get

I made my own beef tubes from tubing scrap from the hardware store. Cost: less than 10$. Making them yourself: priceless!
