Default servo question

what would be a better servo for my wraith? hitec 645 mg ultra high torque metal gear bb servo, or the savox sw-0231 water proof high torque std digital servo?

Both are weak for a wraith.

Not the best choices for a Wraith, but 200 oz-in ran fine on mine (Tactic TSX55).

I like the Protek 150t but based on your choice I doubt that you want to pay the price for one. But it's the smoothest quiet4st servo I've used.

My first choice would be the Hitec HS-7950TH. 486 oz/in of torque and titanium gears.

A little less of a budget buster is the HS-7954SH. I have used one in a wraith for a couple of years now without a problem.

You will need a external BEC for running 3S or power direct from battery if running 2S. I use a external BEC so I can switch between 3S and 2S.

Get a castle bec and a savox 1230 and youll have no more problems.
The savox is ~80$ the bec is ~24$ and if you have a friend with the newer castle field link then your all set. Just need to set the bec for 6v i think stock is 5.4v

It depends on your ESC and/or external BEC set-up as well as what you want to spend. If you're not using an eternal BEC, then the 200 oz-in Savox above, Graupner 707 or Tactic TSX55 would be fine in your price range.

If you're using an external BEC or high current internal BEC in your ESC, then something in the 300-400 oz-in would be better but the price will increase along with speed and torque.

Heyok makes plug and play becs, adjustable through a pot. Wraiths on 2.2s need torque. I ran a 220oz for one run after the stocker crapped out. Now I have a hh in there set at like 500oz. Night and day, the servo is so strong, it actually moves the whole truck

why not a bec? the xl5 has no drag brake, are you just running this as a basher or are you crawling with it? the tactic tsx55 is fine in my scx10 rigs but under powered in my wraith....

It's not a bad servo, all metal gears, brass bushings in the top plate to help support the gear shafts, dual ball bearings and I didn't need an external BEC to run it. I ran one on the front of the Wraith until I converted to 4WS, then it got moved to the rear to steers the rear wheels.

I think it's well worth the $23 I gave for it.

I recommend a Tower Pro 968 from Locked Up. Very strong servo for $33 and quite well made.

Tower Pro Digital MG968 servo

Too bad they are currently out of stock.

I have a Savox 0231 in my SCX10 which is about the same torque as the Tactic 55. The 200oz/ in is (in my taste) just barely enough to turn my 1.9 BFGs. I honestly dont think thats enough torque for a Wraith. Look for something closer to 300oz/in at least and you'll be happy you spent the extra money. I have a Hitec 7954 in my Wraith and love it but there are cheaper options out there...

If you have the funds, my option would be a hitec 7950, some think its overkill but too much in some situations is better than not enough . lol

Ran the TSX55 on the front and is now on the rear of a 2.2" Wraith, had/has plenty of torque to turn the wheels. Have a TSX45 (150 oz-in) on the front of the SCX10 with 1.9's and it has enough torque to turn the wheels. Both with R35 Ripsaws and steel wheels, but neither are overly heavy with options or "garnish" yet (yet). So weight may be a factor.

The TSX55 should be fine until he's ready to upgrade the ESC and/or add an external BEC. They may not have the torque to slam the steering lock-to-lock sitting on the ground, but they have enough to turn them lock-to-lock sitting still.
