Sourdough U4RC Well I won this sweet chassis last weekend made by UCFAB. This thing is VERY VERY nice! So here I am dabbling into the scale side again, haha http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pstswlyfct.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps077x6eo4.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psqxneyxox.jpg And a picture of my cluttered "Work Bench" at the Mercedes Dealership I work at. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf728m4ew.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC What are you waiting, lets see some progress????!!!!!"thumbsup" |
Re: Sourdough U4RC I was wondering who won that chassis! That was given away before judges were done running.... there is far too much light in the picture to denote anything other wise. hahahaha enjoy! |

Re: Sourdough U4RC Awesome chassis! 10/10 for the bends in the lower front bar and the variation in tube size! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk |
Re: Sourdough U4RC Bad ass chassis. Back to my 642 oil cooler job. We have a nice little U4 track behind the shop out here. |
Re: Sourdough U4RC I finally have some updates for you guys. I have slowly been collecting parts (Nothing Integy, that was a joke), and this truck is now a roller. I went over to the CreationFab shop to make a custom skid plate that would allow the use of Yeti trailing arms. But after drawing everything out, it wasn't going to work. So I decided to build this the way it was intended, as a Wraith. Parts recently added: Proline F150 Raptor body for Yeti (heavily modified) Wraith skid Vanquish Wraith 3/16" link kit RC4WD AX2 transmission AR60 axles (Underdrive rear gears, Hardened stock front gears from RS4MT) Black Shift Hubs RcBros Carbon Fiber Wheels Pitbull Growler A/T Tires CI 2 stage foams Losi Night Crawler drivelines http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps09yx4zy8.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psjscaxdfk.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspr2mxlkb.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5cooeshm.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psla9qsbaz.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC Damit Tom, I was looking forward to all tne integy hawtness. |
Re: Sourdough U4RC A couple more updates: I took the chassis over to my friends at Buster Beaver Design in Wilsonville OR. They specialize in ceramic coating for firearm's and such. They do FANTASTIC work and pay a great attention to detail. I blasted the chassis with some kind of aluminum oxide stuff (wasn't really listening) and I should have it back all coated by this weekend! Anyone want to guess on the color I am choosing? http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps9mfmyevm.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8k4lu63y.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psu52dwjsn.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps5cdimg7n.jpg |

Re: Sourdough U4RC As far as drive lines... I have a theory that the reason people are wiping out Ring and Pinion sets and pinion bearings, is due to heavy, out of balance drive lines. These are a few things I thought of about pinion bearing failures, that I think are overlooked. -The pinion bearing essentially carries the weight of the drive line. -The further away the CV joint of the drive line is away from the pinion bearing, bearing load drastically increases. -The MIP drive lines dont spin true, and get worse when the splines are extended. -The angle of the pinion in relation to the transmission have effect on vibration and bearing load -All of these issues didn't really matter on crawlers due to the lower RPM and HP. But with these trucks going like 30mph and 2HP motors, these forces are really causing issues in reliability. So on this truck, I am going to try to use my favorite drive line from over the years (and it worked out perfect). And that is the drive line from a LOSI Night Crawler. I happened to make a hybrid drive line for this truck using the LNC and Twin Hammers pieces. The Twin Hammers CV joint uses the 3rd generation (strongest) style with spiral lock ring holding the cross pin into place. And the LCC drive shaft fits into it perfectly. They are light weight, spin true, compact and fairly strong. The down side is you are relying on the drive cup for your drive line travel. So trucks with a lot of slip required can't use these. And they are only made in one length. Which happens to be perfect for a stock wheelbase Wraith with a RC4WD AX2 trans. Here are some pictures: http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps4mb1b6om.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspdkhlyck.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psntlmufhw.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC So I decided to have the chassis ceramic coated in clear. I couldn't dare cover up those beautiful braze welds! http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps6fsfugx9.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC My friend Jason suggested I do blue panels. So I found a transparent blue I liked, then I backed it in silver to make it sparkle haha http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psk0gsqqbs.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psrqpzizey.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC Jake from Y Town crawlers makes a really nice simple servo /link mount. And I love how well it fits! I just need to counter sink the screw that goes into the diff and it will be perfect. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps0lyg2ckq.jpg http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps3mu1pxzs.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC I was able to use the LNC driveshafts on front and rear, still using the VP links and rod ends. I don't know the stock position of the link mounts (since I am building this from scratch). But I flipped the link mounts so the rear is out further, and front is closer. That made everything fit perfectly. I clearanced the rear diff area and mounted the sway bar with the lower links. Everything just barely clears. http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyhpz7xhi.jpg |
Re: Sourdough U4RC what exactly are your mods for your drive shaft??i am curious to see a little more what it is???and nice u4 rigs. |
Re: Sourdough U4RC Wow! Really like the way you cut that body up to make that chassis even more awesome! |
Re: Sourdough U4RC Truck is looking great Tom! Are you running any tubes inside the axle housings? I made some short threaded rings for the axle tube side of the servo mount that adds a lot of beef to the mounting point and only weight a few grams. I'll drop one in the mail for you if you need one. |
